Anyone take up or try boxing in the pursuit of fitness? I know a girl from school who has killer tone in her arms, shoulders, and abs, all thanks to boxing, and this flabmuffin would like to get there.

Should I start with Wii Boxing...? :)

Dude, Wii boxing is rouuuuugh.  Esp if you use wrist weights (so you can hold the controllers).  I've been doing Jillian Michaels, Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism DVD and there is quite a large amount of punching and kickboxing - it's toning me in no time!

I liek doing the training on Wii Boxing too, it allows you to focus on specific things.  The only reason I suggest finding a DVD or class is that with kickboxing I feel like i'm burning more calories and really, really whittling my waist.  So I might look for a boxing based workout dvd or drop in at a local class.  Tae Bo was popular for a reason ya know? ;)

I've gone back to boxing, kickboxing, tae bo, etc. a lot for a fun workout. If there's an intro class close to you, I'd try that!

I kickboxed once a week for a year until recently (weight trained/did cardio twice a week as well).  I lovelovelove it.  It is my favorite workout.

I agree with Dorsay.  Try the Jillian DVD, it's a killer!  The boxing moves are actually fun, and totally empowering.  She incorporates a lot of kickboxing into the workout; it really gets you into amazing shape.  Good luck :-)

I like the idea of a DVD before a class or something. Cheaper, among other benefits!

One question... Exactly how much room will I be needing for something like the Jillian DVD D'Orsay mentioned, or even for The Shred dvd?

    Thanks again!

the 45 minute one (BFBM) you'll need enough space to do a squatting side kick, jumping jacks and be in a plank position.  I'd say it's about the same for the shred, enough to be in a wide stance and jump around.  I like the shred, but I LOVE BFBM.  With the shred just as I'd be like, "yeah I rule" the workout would be over.  With BFBM I'm like I've ruled it and I'm ready for a break.  I don't know if that makes sense... I think I just enjoy the longer, intense workout :)

also, on Amazon, you can see little clips to get an idea of some of the workouts.
