I think I like Jacob Daniel best. It flows better than Jacob David (IMO)
Love Jacob David! I really like Jacob Daniel too! :)
You can't go wrong - congrats!!!!
Lucas is our current favorite baby boy name, so I voted that! I also love the name Jacob, but wouldn't use it for the same reason you said, I don't want a million kids in his class with the same name. But really I love both of them, good taste.
There are a lot of votes for Lucas but no explanations! ;-) My hubs says that I'm doing the same thing with you all as I do with him...go with the exact opposite decision as what's suggessted (no seriously, I do this all the time, haha!). I'm REALLY leaning towards Jacob. To the point where I asked him to say both names and I just got that "feeling" with Jacob. I just don't care about the Twilight thing as much, I guess? :-)
I just like Lucas Daniel better, I feel like it flows best. I don't have a real reason for it though.
I like either Lucas or Jacob for the first name. I'm just not a fan of the name David... too many "odd" kiddos with that name. lol
P.S. Congrats on your pregnancy!!
I like both names but something about Lucas grabs me just a little bit more! It might be because it's not quite as popular (I seriously think every third person I know who has recently had a boy has named him Jacob) but even putting that aside, I just love the name Lucas. You could keep it as Lucas or shorten it to Luke - both are great names.
As for his being teased about "Luke, I am your faaaaaathahhh", well there's an equally good, if not better chance, that he's going to get teased about being Edward Cullen or some other Twilight reference (I've never read/seen Twilight so I can't make any references but I'm sure there must be some!)
That being said, if you are seriously leaning towards Jacob, by all means go with it - it's a lovely name! If you can't be certain that it's the right name, maybe don't share your name with people (or let them know you don't want personalised gifts before the baby arrives) and decide which name suits him better when he arrives.
I voted for Lucas Daniel because it has a nicer flow to it. I think Jacob David is a little more awkward because of the double "AY" sound (JAY-cob DAY-vid). Hopefully that makes sense...
@melisslp: LOL DH and I are TOTALLY cracking up over that because my Dad is a totally "odd" old hippie :) I think the reason we really want to do that name is because I'm the end of the line, my dad just had me so his "name" is gone with me and this is kind of our nodd of the head to him...?
@Ree723: I like the idea of just waiting...I'm not good at keeping secrets, but maybe this would be our reason, haha!
Both my DH and I have names that aren't really special on the "most popular" lists (like 50 out of 100 for our birth years?). I just don't want our child to hate their name, I guess? Who knows...I just can't believe how much pressure there is to pick a name that doesn't suck! We both just really love the more traditional names, people naming their kids Apple and Grape or PaperCup just aren't for us ;-)
I like Lucas because you don't see it every day. I'm a teacher...there are a LOT of Jacobs...but I have to say in 4 years I've never had a Lucas in class. That's my reasoning :D
@furtureffcaptwife: I wonder if it's regional??? We have more Lucas than Jacob? Everyone keeps telling me "just go with your gut" but my gut is either but since my DH prefers Jacob so much, I feel like I have to admit to the man that he can win sometimes when I'm torn :)
@KansasPrincess11: I love both of those names! But I work with kids and have to agree with one PP, there are lots more Jacobs than Lucases. You really can't go wrong though!
I like Jacob Daniel the best as well.
I'm a little partial though, we're naming our son Jacobi Daniel :)
I'm also a fan of Jacob Daniel more than Jacob David... for some reason the latter choice doesn't flow as well. I really like both names though :)
I much prefer Luc (and Lucas).I love the name Luke, no matter how it's spelled. And weirdly enough I really like the way curvise L's look, lol
I've never been fond of the name Jacob, sounds/connotation/popularity you name it, it's got negatives in barrels. What about Caleb? or Jace?
I like the name Lucas better. Then again, I named my son something different (Ryddik) so I'm partial to names that aren't as common. I agree on the whole Twilight thing. I love the books and the movies are alright but when my husband suggested Jasper as a name I almost gagged! I knew everyone would think of Twilight and I didn't want that. I would definitally suggest Lucas.
@KansasPrincess11: My bonus sons name is Jacob. He was born before the twilight movies. People ask all the time if he was named after the movie. I can also tell you that every time we go to the park, play scape, etc, it's very confusing. There's a ton of people yelling Jacob and lots of kids turning and looking.
I love Lucas Daniel. Jacob David sounds like it would be a tongue twister for a child IMO..Lucas is such a strong name to me and very uncommon..
Congrats on your baby boy! I voted for Lucas (have you considered Lucas David?)
I really like Lucas Daniel! I went to school with a Lucas and never heard anyone make a star wars reference regarding his name. He was also a really fun and funny guy.
All of the Twilight comments with Jacob (and having tons of Jacobs in every class) would drive me crazy.
You can check a baby name's popularity by state on the Social Security website, if you are concerned about which is more popular locally!
http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/state/index.html
Of course, even though I know Jacob is one of the most popular names right now, I actually only know one baby with either name and it's Lucas. Lucas is still my favorite though.
I like the way both names sound but I like Lucas as a first name just a touch better. I think that if you really want to include your dad's name Lucas David with your last name sounds just as good as Lucas Daniel!
I love both and my favorite name for a boy is Jacob Wyatt. However Jake is so common now that I am hesitant on using it, and DH isn't a huge fan of Jake so that already got vetod.
I really like Lucas. It is different enough that not everyone will have the same name, but mainstream enough that people will know how to spell it and besides Star Wars there is nothing bad to associate it with. I just think of little kids on a playground.
I like Lucas. I have no idea why, I just think it is a nicer name.
OH. MY. GOSH.
I hate this. HATE! I just checked the SSA website (THANK YOU! for that suggestion!!!) and the #1 names last year in Kansas?
Jacob
Isabella
Eff you Twilight!!!
:-(**
The only 2 Jacobs I've ever known had major behavior problems, so my vote is for Lucas!
jacob has been in the top even before twilight. lucas is ok, but it's a salty chili peppery candy here so when i think of lucas, i think of "lucas the candy". actually, i love the name david as a first name.
I prefer Lucas but I like that Jacob gives the option of JD as a nickname. It's been so long I wouldn't think Star Wars, but I used to call my friend Puke-is though. But I'd still pick Lucas. Maybe I'm biased because I watch One Tree Hill (I like Nathan as a name too :) )

So my hubs and I found out not long ago that we're having a boy, hurray!!! We're trying to figure out which of the two names we love the most...votes, please! :)
We've already figured out that the initials don't spell anything weird/inappropriate, the name/nicknames work with our last name, etc.
Lucas Daniel C
Jacob David C
The middle names are both family names, David is my Dad's name, Daniel is my DH's middle name. I LOVE both first names. So does DH.
The silly things I don't like:
Jacob: Twilight. I like Twilight as much as the next adult who acts like a teenager. However, I don't want my kid to be Jacob C. for his whole childhood because there are 8 billion Jacob/Jake's out there thanks to all of us crazy Twihards.
Lucas: Star Wars. I dare someone to say "Luuuuke. I am your faathaaaaah." to my child and not get hurt. HA!
Right now we're leaning towards Jacob, but we'll see....?
