Have been going out with my fella for 14 months, been living together for 10 months. Occasionally we get drunk together and in our tiddly state, tell eachother we want to marry eachother(!!) Also, from time to time he will make reference to ‘our’ wedding day….i.e whilist watching ‘Don’t tell the Bride# on TV, he will say things like ‘Oh no, wouldn’t like that on our wedding day’.
Basically, he’s making no secret that he wants to marry me. also, recently, the subject of babies came up, and he said ‘Babies can come later, I want to marry you first….I’m not hanging about!!’ (he sort of half laughed).
Anyway, saturday just gone we were on our way to catch a train, and we were talking about my friend’s recent engagement. I said ‘I thought it was lovely how he proposed to her’…. (but not hinting at anything – it wa sjust general chit-chat. Then we changed the subject. Then., 20 mins later whilst on the train, he held my hand and was looking at the ring I have on my right hand, and randomly said “so, is this the kind of ring you like then? One stone in the middle and one either side’?? I said ‘errr yeah, I like that style, I like a bit of bling!’ and he said ‘ok, so you would like one stone in the middle and a few either side, say?’ I said ‘yep! Thats defo my style’. Then he sort of looked at the ring from a different angle so he could see how it was set. Then that was that and the subject changed.
Well, I just sat there and smiled to myself! So, sorry for the essay, my question is, how long do you think before an actual proposal?? For those of you who are engaged, how long in your experience after the ring subject was bought up, did he actually propose? We are going on holiday to the Carribean in May, and it’s my birthday in March.
it did occur to me that maybe he has asked me to kind of keep me on my toes, but, he is a smart, loving and empathetic guy and do think he would do that to me, i.e knowing that it would excite me, and then do absolutely nothing about it for a year. That would be cruel, surely?!
