so last night just cuddling in bed, my SO said ‘it will be so exciting to be engaged, we’ll get to show everyone your ring and celebrate…’
i agreed and said that if it was before christmas it would be nice to have an engagement party at christmastime (that’s when we go back to our home country) and he agreed that that would be perfect – i hope that means it’s intended for before the holiday!
then he asked me how i would like to be proposed to! if i wasn’t already laying flat, i would have fallen over! we travel alot, so i said it would be fun to be on holiday, but that the most important thing is that it’s meaningful, it doesn’t have to be elaborate. after a minute or two i added ‘…or a picnic, i love picnics!’
so who knows?! it certainly won’t be before october, as we will be long distance from mid june until end of september. I think that’s part of why he’s thinking about it – we haven’t been separated in years and it’s going to be tough. but made easier knowing that a proposal is coming….eeeek!
did your SO ask about your ideal proposal? and if so, is that what he did?
share your happy waiting news with me bees! i’m so excited 🙂

@peonyinlove: AHHH!!! This is so exciting!! It definitely sounds like you’ll have some brand new jewelry by Christmas 😉
My SO has never asked me but I have told him that I’ll be disappointed if he just hands me the box/puts no thought into the proposal or asks me when I’ve just woken up and look gross with unwashed hair and bad breath! I also told him that I want him to bend down when he asks me but other than that he has free rein to do whatever. (Geez, I sound demanding!)
I know he would never ask me in a public way (like on a jumbotron at a game or something) so I’m assuming it’ll be a private proposal.

@FEDORAble: thanks for sharing my excitement!
i don’t think my SO would ever do anything too public, he’s pretty private and that’s okay by me, i would be so embarrassed with a jumbotron proposal – i’m too shy!
i so hope it’s by christmas – it would be so special to celebrate as an engaged couple and be able to have an engagement party with our friends and family at home 🙂

@peonyinlove: Will you see each other at all during the long distance period?
I bet that that time away from you will really have him reflecting on how special your relationship is and make him that much more determined to propose!!
I definitely am right there with you on being too shy for a public proposal. Even a proposal in like a restaurant would be pretty mortifying to me (although I always have enjoyed seeing them occur!)

Ooh, that is exciting! Congrats 🙂 How do you feel about public proposals versus private ones? I ask because I think sometimes guys think public = better and I know i would not be happy about a public proposal! Someone I work with recently proposed to his fiancee by taking her out for drinks overlooking the water and had a plane fly by with the proposal written on a banner behind it.

@FEDORAble: no – unfortunately we will be on opposite coasts; essentially in new york and la. it will be tough, but maybe he’ll miss me so much that he’ll propose instantly upon our return to europe! ha! we live here for school 🙂
at least i can pin to my secret ‘wedding’ board to my heart’s content this summer since he won’t be around to bust me!
@mojitolady: that is a crazy proposal! wow! i would probably think i just imagined it – like, ‘ummmm did that just say….’

@peonyinlove: Oh crap. This just made me think about a couple things that happened this week and now I’m wondering…
My cousin (who I’m very close to) mentioned that she asked my boyfriend for his phone number. She kind of caught herself so I asked why and she said it was because I was in the middle of a mini-family crisis and it was “just in case”. That doesn’t make a ton of sense, but I let it go. Then the next day the same cousin was asking me how I’d like to be proposed to and was paying very specific attention and responding to things that “seemed do-able”.
I wondering if they’re plotting something!

@MexiPino: This sounds so incredibly promising as well! I bet they think they’re so sneaky haha!
@peonyinlove: Have you already picked out rings? Maybe it’ll be coming before he leaves!! 🙂

You never know, it could be tomorrow! Congrats.

@MexiPino: whoa! i definitely think there’s something there – exciting!!
@FEDORAble: we’ve picked out a ring but we are students and he found a high paying job this summer, so i think it’s more realistic that he’ll buy it at the end of the summer. I also know that he wants to talk to his parents about it before it happens.

He hasn’t really asked, because I think we both want it to be a surprise for me. There aren’t any big events until his birthday in July, so it could really be anywhere anytime.
I told him flat out that if he pretends to die and then proposes then there will be a real death, lol.
