and I couldn’t be more relieved. For the past year I have been agonizing over rings, and size of stones, and split shank, and halo or solitaire. Well recently my SO said in a round about way to butt out. That he will take my “suggestions” and do his own research. Have to admit it made me kind of giddy. Which is odd, considering I am a CONTROL FREAK. Looks like I will be surprised with the design 🙂 and the proposal.
SOOO ladies, show me your ring you had little to no input on. Show me the rings he surprised you with.

FI picked my ring on his own. I told him I wanted a round diamond and that was it. I love it…I don’t think I could have picked a more perfect ring myself. I’m also a control freak, and I’m SO glad it was a surprise! It’s worth it, I promise!

I had picked out about three different rings, and he picked something totally different!!!!
Here’s my ring:
I have no ring regrets! He picked out something a LOT nicer and more detailed than I ever would have picked out myself! I am so happy with his choice.
He also told me to “butt out” he wanted to choose on his own, he did an amazing job! But before I even saw the ring he expressed that if I didn’t like it he could return it with no feelings hurt too- I obviously didn’t return it!!

Ooooo, I love this thread! So I am a total, total control freak and super picky about the type of halo I wanted. I was scouring the internet looking for settings. It was fun but also overwhelming. He essentially told me to back off after I went to the jewelry store and tried one on that we both liked…yeah, I did that AND THEN told him. I can’t keep anything from him. So, he told me I was DONE, DONE, DONE and that he was doing the rest. I basically told him I wanted a OEC moissy, halo in a diamond setting and it was hard to give up control, but it meant a lot to him that HE pick it out and not just walk up to the counter and say, “my girlfriend wants style number 238402.”
It isn’t necessarily the exact ring that I would have picked out, but he delivered everything I asked for. I love it more than any other ring, now, because it was from him and picked out by him.
So, give him some inspiration and trust your man! I know, it’s hard!

@amallama: DH picked mine all on his own. i picked the wedding band with him.
This picture doesnt even do it justice in person (even tho i LOVE this pic!) there are also diamonds all underneath the setting as well.

I told him that I loved halos, radiant or oval, maaaybe square but definitely not round, and I prefer plain shanks. He got a princess solitaire with a channel set band. And I love it. So so much.

My fiance picked mine out completely on his own. I had absolutely no input, since my suggestions had all be extremely non-traditional/claddaugh centric.
3/4 carat cushion cut diamond with a classic cathedral setting.
Simple & classic

I am another control freak girl, however our engagement came as a complete surprise to me. He could not have done better (however, he also had a dear friend of mine make it, so she wasn’t going to lead him astray.)

Was a total surprise proposal, had no say in the ring whatsoever

I told FI I wanted a round rose gold solitare. This is what he proposed with and I absolutely love it, although I never would have picked it myself.
