Does anyone know of a good source of BPA-free canned tomatoes or, better still, tomatoes that are sold in glass jars? I know that some companies are moving toward phasing it out (or at least paying lip service to doing so), but I also know that some of them are replacing the BPA with BPS, which is equally bad if not worse. I haven’t had much luck finding tomatoes sold in glass and I’d appreciate some help – maybe some brands I can ask local grocery stores to look into carrying?

Commenting to follow. I haven’t found them anywhere near me in glass. We can our own tomatoes, but that doesn’t work for tomato paste/other products.

@KCKnd2: i would check out whatever your local natural/organic food store you have around you..whole foods/central market/sprouts…depending on where you are located there is always a natural food store you can check out 🙂

Many of Trader Joe’s products incl tomatoes are BPA free. I emailed them last September and this is what they said:
Good: All our canned fish, canned chicken and canned beef are now in BPA-free cans EXCEPT: Sardines, Crab, Cherrystone Clams & Oysters (all those suppliers are working for 2012 solution).
Good: All our canned fruits and vegetables (including the All Canned Tomatoes and Organic Canned Pumpkin when it returns this Fall) are in BPA-free cans EXCEPT: Mandarins, Hatch Chilies, Artichokes, Organic Baked Beans (expecting transition this Fall).
Good: Coconut Milk is in a BPA-free can.Bad: All of our canned Soups and Stews (including Joe's Os) are in cans that DO have BPA. Some of the suppliers are expecting they will be able to make transition next year.
Edit- my absolute fav canned tomatoes, Muir Glen Fire Roasted, are also BPA free. And they taste way more amazing than normal tomatoes! They are so expensive that I almost never buy them though.
