I have tried on a few dresses that seem to have a bra like clasp at the back. I am unsure what the proper term is it, but basically some dresses have a strap that you wind under your chest and it looks like the back of a bra with a series of hook and eyes.
Does anyone know what this is called and if you can get it added to your dress?

Thanks for this!
Do you know if a clasp like this could be added to a dress?

@Bainise2013: Yup, they’re called hooks & eyes. I suppose you could use them a dress closure; hook and eye tape is available by the yard, but I’m not sure how nice it would look. Also, to use it as a dress closure, you’d have to have extra fabric in the back, because it would create an overlap.
IMO, I think you’d be better off with a corseted back if you’re looking for adjustability. If you use anything but the closetest eyes, you’ll see the remaining row(s) of exposed eyes…
I’d ask a seamstress what she thinks about it! 🙂

I have tried on dresses that have both, which is why I am wondering. I really feel like that strap gave the support that I would get from a bra, even more than from a corset.
