Hi Bees,
I have seen a few photos out there of updos with braids, for example Jessica Alba.
What do you bees thing about braids and your big day?
Have any of you had braids in your hair at your wedding?
I think they're beautiful! I'm still toying with this idea myself. I haven't decided yet...
I think it probably depends on your dress. It's a pretty look, but might not fit with a fuller skirt - proportions would be off.
Absolutely gorgeous! I think it's a unique and modern take on an updo.
I think they're super cute! It might depend on the dress though. I don't know what it would look like say if you have a formal gown.
i love them. i actually collected a lot of those pictures, and more, as inspiration and sent them to my mom to see what she thought... but she wasn't so happy about it. i care a little too much what my mom thinks, so no braids for me. i'll live through you other bees!
I think they're SOOO cute. I wish I was talented enough to do this with my own hair on normal days, but alas, I'll just look at pretty pictures.
My sister/MOH did this for our wedding, with the Jessica Alba picture as inspiration. She's the first one.

I love the Jessica Alba one and was going to do something like that for mine but now I got it cut and love wearing it down. I showed that to my bridesmaid and she might get it done in her hair! :)
i considered the sarah michelle gellar do myself! i love it so much! but then my forehead is bigger than hers so I decided against it. :)
i love the sarah michelle gellar one!! but i definately love the braids - quite the style lately.
lol... i am so glad this is better than i pictured.. I pictured cornrows and i was gonna have to come knock some sense into you
i am soo glad you posted these pics!! i have been trying to figure out my hair and i knew i was doing a low updo, but the braid is perfect!! yay thanks PinkSparkleGrl
I actually have that Jessica Alba pic saved in my inspiration folder!
I think they are awesome. I think they look so elegant! I might do one myself!!!
I used the Jessica Alba picture as inspiration for my hair at my wedding. I had a TON of compliments on it. This was it from the back and the side:
@MJTKNT, what is your hairpiece and how does it work? Is it clipped on or does it go around the updo? It looks beautiful!
Very pretty! I just saw a feature on braided wedding hairstyles in a magazine I picked up tonight. It said that hair trends tend to go from runways to street fashion to bridal...gradually, in that order. In any case, Jessica Alba's updos always look AH-mazing, and I'm sure I'll be using one of her styles as inspiration. : )
@hugstiem: It's actually two sets of Bel-Aire hair pins (one on each side)-- these ones: http://www.advantagebridal.com/1930.html They were just stuck in there after my hair was done, then my veil went underneath the bun. HTH.
Edit: I also wanted to add that the picture looks like I have a TON of hair. While I had a lot of hair, it was thinner, and didn't give me that "full" look that I was going for. To help that, we took a brillo pad (yes- the very kind you would buy to clean pots and pans) and put it around the pony. The updo was worked around that, and it gave a much fuller-bigger look.
funny I used that same photo of jessica for inspiration for my wedding hair. I ended up going a completely different route. I think that look is very pretty. It reminds me of the girl in Mamma Mia too.
I love the look! I was thinking about it for my rehersal dinner because my gown is a fuller, more formal style so it wouldn't fit for my wedding day.
I think it depends on the dress...do you have pics of your dress yet?
I had found those pictures online a long time ago and had saved them so I could ask my stylist to do this on the trial- I love the style- so pretty and romantic and different....not stiff looking.
MJTKNT: Brillo pad bride!! Brilliant!! Good idea. I think I'd be scared it would come out though!
I love the braided looks! They seem very beachy-boho-chic wedding.
If your wedding is really formal with a large skirted wedding gown I just don't see the braid looking right. Braided up-do's are cute, but they really look better with simpler wedding gowns.
I wanted to do the Jessica Alba look above... but when I asked people what they thought about it, almost everybody said "that look is too casual". So I'm doing something else.
LOVE the inspiration! If my hair did that, I would definitely consider a style like that - go for it!
Totally in love with that 'do! I think it depends on the dress though. It's more of a romantic, bohemian kind of look. I'd say it depends on how traditional your wedding is. I think this is gorgeous for a destination or outdoor wedding.
I think I'm going to do a braid for my wedding - but using this as my inspiration...
I really like it, if I was wearing my hair up I would really consider it. It's beautiful and just a little bit earthy. :o)
Any body know how long your hair has to be for this style to work?
Mine is barely shoulder length and I'm not sure it's long enough to make this look good.
@kala_way:i'm doing this style and just had my trial. it looked great! my hair is just a couple of inches past my shoulders. start taking prenatal vitamins to help your hair grow faster!
