Ok, ladies of the hive, I need your suggestions!

I am attempting to brainstorm alternatives to bouquets for my bridesmaids. To set the scene, we are being married in a 5:30pm ceremony in a gazebo on the front lawn of a gorgeous castle. Boat transportation is required to/from the castle so ease of transportation is a must. I have thought of using parasols, but because our ceremony is later in the day I am not sure how much sense that makes.

What other ideas can you think of?

What about paper flowers?  I would have never thought of them but have recently seen some great paper flower bouquets on other boards.

I also saw one bride who had her maids carry lanterns and if it will be starting to get dark when the ceremony starts, even just slightly that may give a wonderfully warm glow to the occassion and offer slightly more light for the gazebo as the ceremony goes on.

Lately I've seen a lot of fans.  The really pretty ornate kind or feather ones.  May not be as original as you're hoping, but it's an idea!

I like the idea of laterns, kind of like the ones that the elves had in Lord of the Rings:

Maybe they can carry candles down the aisle.  It would make give off a warm glow just like the lanterns.  Lanterns are probably more cost effective.

If it's a seaside location (or with other beach weddings) how about a seashell pomander?
