HoorayLouLou:  Welcome to the Bee! Ditto on HATING the word boyfriend. I’m not in 8th grade, he is a man not a boy, and we got into this to get married- not date. So NO to the boyfriend.

We’ve not been together quite as long (4 years), and do not have any children together, but I totally get feeling like you are already married. We live together, have a dog, have joint expenses, etc., but don’t have the leagal documentation. I don’t think much will change once we get married, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Unlike you, my SO is traditional. I would be fine with an elopement or a small wedding, but he wants the big party and what-not (granted, I’m not aginst the big show, I just want to be married to him more than anything). He wants it to all be a surprise, so I am not invited to go ring shopping with him; he says I get the wedding, so he get’s the proposal. Okay, fine. I gave him my requirements (6 prong, round) and suggestions (solitare, pave, pref-not chanel set) and my ring size, the rest is up to him. I am about 99% sure he hasn’t bought a thing. Do you think your SO will involve you in the purchasing, or just take your “dream ring” into consideration and buy something?

HoorayLouLou:  I like vintage rings, but my SO seems to think new is better. LOL. We actually have a ring that we could use, but won’t… It was my mother’s wedding ring to my dad, which she gave to me before she passed last summer. It’s probably a .3 ct diamond, but it is in a 6 prong setting, with some 60-esque metal work. I have always had a thing for 6-prong settings, but since she passed, I am really keen on that idea. I think he will honor that.
