This might be kind of a dumb question, but how exactly do you go about breaking in shoes?  I recently bought two newpairs of sandals for the summer and after one day of wearing each I was in so much pain!  I've been too afraid to try either of them again.  I really like them and want to break them in - any suggestions?  I am a New Yorker so I do a lot of walking on a daily basis.

I'm not sure about sandals but for pumps I put on socks inside the shoes at walk around at home to stretch them.  Maybe you can use some of that runner stuff on your feet with the sandals so you don't get blisters?

ETA: It's called bodyglide.  I think some people put that on their feet or other antichafing products.

Do you have 'Party Feet' over there? They're made by Scholl and are gel pads that stop the burning in the balls of your feet. I second wearing thick socks too.

I had a pair of sandals that hurt between my toes so bad when I first got them. I wore them around the house til they felt comfortable. Now they're so comfie they're my go to sandals.

Instead of wearing socks with them, stuff them with socks... start off small and then work your way up to your warmest winter socks and they'll stretch them out nice. Also, anywhere it might rub on your feet and even the sole of your foot, put cheap powder deoderant on them. I do that and I don't get blisters. Also, depending on the style, try bending and shaping them a bit to losen them up.
