I'm having my shower this weekend and can someone clarify this question about the ribbon rule (you know, the one where the number of ribbons you break is the number of kids you will have).  Does this superstition include untying the ribbon or only if you actually tear/cut the ribbon?

Thanks for your help ladies!  Laughing

I think it's just tearing the ribbon..

Only if you break the ribbon! If you untie it, that's fine. Happy shower :o)

Can't recall anyone keep up with it at the lingerie or other showers.

Enjoy your shower and don't worry about that!

@aliavenue:  There's a superstition, tradition or whatever you want to call it that if you break any of the ribbons decorating any of the gifts you receive at the shower that's how many kids you will have.  It's supposed to make the bride scared to break any ribbons for fear that she will have a litter of kids.

I just couldn't remember if it including untying the ribbons or just the actual tear/cutting of them.

Untieing is fine - it is only breaking or cutting that counts towards the number of kids! ;)

Granted - if your family is like mine - those suckers will be knotted on the packages!

Thank you, ladies for all the help.  I wanted to give yall a little update on how it all turned out. I had to break three ribbons!  And two of them were on the same gift...someone suggested to me that it meant twins!  ha ha  Smile
