Keep shopping. And tell them specifically what you don't want to try on.
I'm sorry to hear your experience hasn't been a good one! Sometimes the key is finding a bridal consultant who is willing to work with you and actually LISTEN to what you have to say. Also, try on a wide variety of dresses. I ended up with a dress I never would have picked out from pictures online - but I loved it!
I love looking at things online first. I am slow to envision a lot, and need time to prepare myself. Even if it's just for silhouette/style thoughts, print out a few pictures you like and take them into a bridal salon to show the person assisting you. This should give them an idea of what you would like, even if you can't put it into words.
I haven't gone yet, but maybe if you tell them specific things you like in dresses? Like, "I'd like to see the dresses you have that are a-line" or "I'd like to find a dress that has ruching at the waist" or "I'm looking for a dress with no beads, lace or sequins."
Be firm with them - this is your dress, afterall! Or bring a firm friend (or relative) with you who can help advocate for what you want to try on!
I'd be happy to compare notes with you on Phoenix shops. Which ones have you been to?
Chasing after dresses that I've found online and then want to try on has not worked out for me and I wouldn't recommend trying to find your dream dress online and then hunting it down in a store. Difficult, time consuming, and fruitless. Just give the dress shopping a rest for a little bit and start again when you are ready. Try to go to a place where you can pick out your own dresses, so you're not at the mercy of the consultant.
I think you need a clear idea of the sillhouette you *want* to start with. These salespeople are frequently not that good at interpreting "flattering" and tend to go for the same thing over and over if you don't give them direction. You can always change the sillhouette if it isn't working.
If you know what you don't want, can you form a basic idea of what you WOULD want?
If you can go to them and say even something like, "simple, please: no lace, no beads, nothing too flouncy" I'm sure you'll have a lot more success in ... not getting shoved into beads, floweriness, and lace?
I never thought I would have trouble finding a dress, but it has been very hard.
I am 5/4 and 108lb. I dont look that great in many styles everything makes me look short. I love fluffy princess style dresses but they seem to swollow me whole! I have tried on so many dresses. I am right there with you, lets just keep the faith going. We will find the one!
More shops and LESS opinions. All sorts of people telling you what they think will just muddle things. Take a day and go by yourself. Find a dress or two that you love and then come back with your mom/BMs or whatever.
I had this exact same problem. I looked at about 1,000 gowns online and figured out the gowns that I loved and wanted to try on. I went by myself to try them on so that I wouldn't be persuaded or confused. After I narrowed it down to 3 of my favs, I brought my parents with me to help me make my final decision. It worked knowing what I liked first and then have the support to make my final decision.
It is frustrating, but keep at it :) You will find it!!!

Anyone else having a horrible-terrible-no-good-very-bad time at trying on dresses? Or is it just me? I think it may have to do with the fact that I don't prefer one particular style but a style that would be flattering. I feel like everytime I go to a shop they throw me into flowered-beaded-lacey things which is the opposite of what I wanted. Anyone else have the Bridal Gown Blues?
