Ok, im having some issues with figuring our great gifts for our wedding party.  I want to get them something that is actually useful.  I'm ok with buying the girls jewerly to wear at the wedding, i just hate to get them that and it never gets worn again.  I've got the same gift for weddings i've been in and never wore the jewerly after the wedding.  I want it to be something thoughtful and maybe something a little out of the ordernary.  Any suggestions?

Hmm.  Does it have to be the same thing for all your maids?  Because finding something that multiple people would enjoy and find useful can be tricky.

    What about an iPod Shuffle?

    Digital picture frame?

Pashmina (totally common, but very useful)?

Personalized stationary (it's been done by bees here before, but I don't know if it's common)?

A magazine subscription (you could buy the current issue from the stand to actually give them with a note about the subscription)?

A class (pay for a cooking, cake decorating, photography, flower arranging, home buying, financial planning, foreign language, etc. class that would interest them)?

Really useful- give them something small and thoughtful and then put what you would have spent on them towards the expenses they will incur to attend the wedding (ie their hotel accomodations or something)?

I like the magazine subscription idea and money put towards accomodations.

I know what you mean about the jewerly thing. I recieved jewerly a couple times for being in a wedding and I never wear the pieces.

What about a gift certificate to a restaurant, spa, gas, movie theater, etc?

I love all of these ideas! I wanted something useful for my girls, too. I got them each a bathrobe and will have them monogrammed for them. I also plan to get them each a pair of jewelled flip flops that they can wear during the (casual) reception. My mom has an embroidery business, so she will be doing the monograms for the robes and the shoes!
