Our wedding isn’t until August but we are trying to figure out our bridal party gifts so that we can include them in our wedding budget. There are 4 bridesmaid and 3 groomsmen and we want to get them something that isn’t directly related to our wedding and something they will like and use.
One idea is getting everyone a pair of L.L.Bean Duck Boots. Everyone either lives in bad weather or rainy areas so we thought these would be beneficial to everyone.
Would you like it if you got a pair of duck boots for your bridesmaid gifts? We may do a photo of everyone in them at the rehearsal dinner but probably not at the wedding (unless it’s raining, but let’s not hope for rain!). I’m not sure what else to include with the boots — should we go with something that would match like a nice pair of thick, cute socks or maybe a pretty necklace for the girls?
Any feedback is welcomed!
ETA that the reason for L.L.Bean boots vs. other boots is because I am from Maine, so it would be a little bit of me vs. another rain boot company. None of the bridal party are from Maine.

@minky123: I think that is such a cute idea! 🙂

@minky123: I wouldn’t be a fan to be honest. They’re not my taste. I’d much rather a pair of Hunter boots if you were going to get me rain gear.

I’m sorry but, I hate those.
I wouldn’t mind cute rain boots but those I would never wear beyond what you asked me to wear them for.

@MsGinkgo: +1 a cute pair of hunter boots I’d be happy with. The duck boots are ugly and I wouldn’t wear them.

I personally love LL Bean duck boots, and I’d be pleased as punch to receive them as a gift.
However, I understand that they aren’t everyone’s taste, so they probably aren’t the best gift idea unless you are sure that your maids will like them. I like the idea of gifts from LL Bean, but maybe you could get something different for each maid that she would definitely like.

This doesn’t seem like a good question to crowd source because it depends so much on taste. I would think it was awesome, others think they’re ugly. Would the people in your bridal party wear them? If yes, do it. If not, keep thinking…

It really depends on their personal taste whether they’ll like them.
Besides the look of them one thing I’d be worried about is sizing. Shoe sizes range so much depending on brand, many people really need to try them on. I find that boots need to really fit well to be comfy.
ETA: If you want to stick with LL Bean, looking through their site quickly they have some really nice looking scarves, fleece jackets, cozy sweaters, etc. Those items might be easier to buy for a group and be more versitile so they get use from them.

@minky123: Aw! love that you are thinking outside of the box!
I am going to be 100% honest and say that I would not be “thrilled” if I got that gift tho… Not sure about your bridesmaids but if any of them are into shoes this may be tricky. I would of course thank you profusely bc a gift is a gift! But then honestly probably never wear them bc they are not my style whch is pretty feminine. Would you consider any other kind of boots? i see these a lot: https://www.google.com/#q=hunter+boots&tbm=shop around here.
If you do end up doing boots I think it would be super cute to throw in a pair of fuzzy socks for the girls and maybe even some anti-blister balm or foot scrup and a note about them kicking off their heels and letting their feet heal from all that dancing? Or you could put the sock in and fill it with candy and goodies? I see a lot of ways you can have fun with this!

Another vote for Hunter boots if you want to do a rain boot.

LOVE Duck Boots & LLBean!

@minky123: Just saw you’re from Maine. Since it’s a gift and for other people, I don’t know if its as important to make the “big gift” a little bit of “you.” Personally, i didn’t even know LL Bean is from Maine.
When I think Maine, I think Lobster –or at least did till I went there and now I think of the beautiful landscape!
What about sometime like this comfy Maine sweatshirt with a cute inside? It’s great for those in chilly weather and I would love to slip into it after the wedding!

@minky123: here’s a few more kitschy maine ideas to tuck into the boots or make part of your gift

Thank you everyone for your honest feedback! I do agree that people either love or hate the look of the duck boots and that the Hunter boots are much more girly and feminine. I will keep looking and thinking of other ideas and try to get a feel for what they think of the duck boots before purchasing. I think the guys will love them as they are all outdoorsy men.
@HourThyme: Yes the duck boots are actually made in Maine, in the same town where my friends and I went to college which was another reason for the Maine and L.L.Bean connection. Other than that, I don’t think I would include anything else that’s related to Maine, but i do love those lobster socks!
