Normally, Bridesmaid or Best Man covers the cost of all but it is nice to get one thing for them or all if you can afford it. You can purchase the dress, hair, shoes, make up, spa or etc and double it as their gift to them.

The BMs pay for their own dress and shoes, unless otherwise agreed.  You pay for hair and make-up only if you require them to use a specific stylist and/or make-up artist.  If you give them a choice to use any stylist or do it themselves, you are not required to pay.

Since you would normally get your BMs a gift, you could make any of these items a gift if you want to.

@rmw61111: You don’t even have to ask in that case–just tell them they can get their hair done professionally on their own dime or do it themselves, but that getting it done somewhere is not required.

Typically, bridesmaids purchase their own dresses and shoes, and the bride gifts them with their jewelry, hair, and makeup. I’m afraid you may have painted yourself into a corner by paying for their dresses, which bridesmaids usually expect to purchase themselves. It will be difficult to ask them to get their hair and makeup professionally done unless you’re paying for it. I would expect that, given that choice, most of them would opt to do their hair and makeup on their own.

i am paying for everything for my Bridesmaid or Best Man – dress, hair makeup, jewelry (necklace, bracelet)

i figured if they are paying flight or hotel for my wedding, i should pay for the rest.  if it wasn’t for mhy wedding, they wouldn’t need to buy a $200 dress, $100 makeup, and $150 jewelry set.  it’s difficult to ask someone to spend $450 at thsi ecoonmy

In the country that I’m from (Scotland) the bride and groom pay for the bridal parties expenses, however here in the U.S it seems that the bridal party pay for everything themselves although I think if the bride and groom can afford it that it’s a very nice gesture to pay for as much as they can, like others said- you can make that their gift.
