I really lucked out w/ plain old Nordstroms - they have alot of styles that are perfect for tall brides (im short) but I still bought a really modern elegant gown there for $300! Perfect for me and was a "poor mans" winnie couture style, which made me happy! Check out their website, but caution ---- it's nothing princess style! Good luck!
I've heard good things about Helen Bohn in Washington Township.
Have you checked out Ally Bridal in Hoboken? Not sure of her prices but she's local. 255 1st Street. A friend bought her dress there and she was very happy with her experience.
Have fun and good luck!
@ Bwitch11 - interesting suggestion! sometimes it's the most obvious places we never think to look! I'll definitely make a trip to Nordstoms!
@Habibi - I pass by Ally Bridal at least twice a week and always think I should stop in! My biggest fear is that they'll be ridiculously out of my price range and I'll have to fake my way through an appointment. I'll check oul Helen Bohn - and maybe Ally if i get up the nerve. ;)
I'm sooooo buying my dress from Helen Bohn Bridals. I've been there twice so far and they're awesome.
Hobochic - if you are uncomfortable asking in person just call them up and ask where their prices start. They shouldn't have a problem telling you...and for what its worth I dont know what my friend paid but she's not a huge spender so it might not be as bad as you think. Plus in this economy if you tell them what you want to spend they might be willing to work with you on price if your current budget falls out of their range.
I got my dress from Bijou Bridal in Paramus. Here's their site... http://www.bijoubridal.com/
And would you believe after all that...I bought my dress on my first outing...at RK Bridal in the city. Thanks for everyone's suggestions - hopefully the next NJ bride will be able to use them!
congrats Hobochic!!
I haven't heard th best things about RK's alterations department so if you decide to take it some place else Dominico's on Willow (btwn 6th and 7th) is the best tailor in town. He can be pricey though so make sure you talk price before leaving your dress with him. He's a miracle worker though!
Thanks Habibi - that's good to know! RK says I need to book my alterations appointments in the next three days (!)...and I'm just not sure I'm ready to commit so far in advance without even knowing how the dress fits!
really? that seems a bit weird to me. I also hightly doubt they would turn you away if you did decide to use them when your dress arives. Have you checked the Knot local boards to see if anyone else has first hand experience?
Hi Hobochic! I went to a ton of places and went back to the first place I visited and the second dress I tried on....mind you I tried on about 67 dresses :) I highly recommend Macy's Bridal Salon - Demetrios is the designer. I bought my dress at the Willobrook Mall but I did go to the bridal salon at Macys on 34th street. The dresses are amazing - definely the most beautiful I tried on. The prices are great! The range is anywhere from high $900's to approximately $2500. I bought my dress, tiara, and finger tip length veil for $1600 total. I did not skimp on the dress either. I am some what of a tomboy but I really wanted to be girly the day of my wedding. The dress I bought has a lot of beadwork for the platinum feel. Good luck to you and congrats!

Hi Bees!
I work in the city, but live in Hoboken with full access to a car. It seems like I might get a better deal on a wedding dress if I go outside the city, so I was hoping for some insight on what Bridal Salons you visited, liked...and hopefully bought a dress at!
I'm not looking for something terribly expensive - $1300 or under would be ideal, so I've already explored the pre-owned route - and it's just not for me. Alas, I'm tall girl with a long torso, so most every dress I try on in my 'regular' life looks like a babydoll - so I want to ensure that I have some good guidance on what can and can not be done with my dress before I buy it.
Without a doubt I'll be making my required trek to Kleinfeld's (we won't talk about how it's totally out of my price range) and RK Bridal in the city - so I was hoping for some suggestions of down to earth bridal salons in NJ.
Thanks!
