@ADKBride: Most brides do it at least a few weeks beforehand. You definitely don't want to do it the day before your wedding, you'll have too much going on. A lot of brides use that day to do a trial run for hair and makeup a few weeks or months before the wedding. I'd definitely suggest doing it back home with your photographer in advance.
My daughter did hers 3 months before the wedding! It gave us time to get the pics back and pick what we wanted to use at the wedding for a display! I think Bridal portraits are more a southern thing! 
yeah do it a month before.. that's what I've heard!! the day of or the day before is too stressing!!!

I have heard of brides doing a shoot before the wedding, but how far in advance should it be done? We are having our wedding 4 hours away, so its kinda a destination wedding. Should I do the shoot back home, where the photographer is from or wait to the day before our wedding it do it then? Im also having her photograph our rehearsal dinner, should I just do it all in one day or do you think its better to do it back home a month or so before?
