So I am going to a bridal shop this weekend and I think I may buy my bridal gown there. The shop also carried the bridesmaid dresses that I love. Problem being that the dresses are online for a significant amount cheaper. I’m leary about buying online but was wondering if there is any etiquette to haggling prices with the bridal shop? Would it be tacky to bring in the online prices and ask them to match them? Thanks a bunch!

It can’t hurt to try! I know my bridal shop took $15 off because I purchased my dress there! You can ask about that too!

i don’t think it’s tacky…i think it’s smart. bring in the online prices and see what they can do. i would also call pearl’s place and have that quote as a backup. that way you’re not ordering online, and their prices are usually lower than other bridal shops. also, your bridal shop wouldn’t be able to give you the excuse about websites having low overhead so they can afford to discount them that much.

As a Bridal shop Manager I can tell you, we hear it all the time. It is not tacky if you are just looking for the best deal possible. If your purchasing your dress at the bridal shop they will most likely be able to offer you some discount. But online “discounters” do not have to pay to stock the dresses, pay the employees to fit you, measure you etc.. they also won’t be there to steam the dresses, or provide alterations. Dealing with your local bridal shop is always best.

I would try it. Ask politely and see what they say. If they’re not willing to match it, buy online. Consider whether the shop will included alterations though too and postal costs for buying online before calculating which is the best price.

Thanks for the help! No such luck and no discount for bridesmaids! 🙁 Considering I have a large bridal party, I called around and another shop gave me over $50 off the bridesmaids dresses each! Sadly, I had to buy my gown there because no one else carried it!
