I loved my experience with Precious Memories in Malden. Not a coture shop but the staff are wonderful, and their selection of dresses at about $1000 is fantastic. BTW, I started a thread on this topic a few months ago and got wonderful suggestions from the hive. ("Boston Area Bridal Shops" on the Boston board)
Good luck!

I went to Marry & Tux in NH and so far had a wonderful experience....of course my dress hasn't come in yet....
I second Precious Memories...That's where I got my dress and my sisters bridesmaid dress. They are so wonderful there! (Its in Malden.... www.bestbridalshop.com )
I'm guessing I should check out Precious Moments! Thanks for sending me the site!
Marry & Tux is actually out of business : ( My mom is sad b/c that is where she got her MOB dress for my sister's wedding.
I cannot recommend Madeline's Daughter in Portsmouth enough! My sister got her dress there, I got my dress there, my sister got her BM dresses there and I will get mine there too. They have all types of dresses ranging from 600-thousands. You need an appointment though. They treat you like a princess. My dress lady is GiGi and I love her!
@Tennis - I am a NH bride. My only recommendation against MA shops is sales tax. Though there is no tax on clothing, they consider wedding dresses a luxury good so you will pay 10% tax.
Erindesmar! 10% on wedding dresses in MA! HolyCrows! I live in NH but our wedding is in MA so I'll def look in NH over MA!! Mary and Tux went out of business? I saw a special on TV the other day for Mary and Tux! I can't believe they went out! Bummer, I heard they were really good!!
The two I would suggest are Vows in Newton and then Country Weddings in Hingham ... neither of which are north of Boston ... so I am useless :)
Well, my mother informs me there are out of business. I haven't investigated yet, but that is the rumor! Or maybe they are going out of business. In which case you could get a great deal on a dress!
I'm going to 2nd the VOWS recommendation even though it's not in the area you are looking at. They are FANTASTIC though! You can check out some of their selection on the website before you decide to make the trip (or not make the trip) here: www.bridepower.com
If you do go, make an appointment, and ask for April! I went to the shop a few times, April was by far the most helpful. :)
You MUST MUST MUST try Vows in Watertown/Newton.
www.BridePower.com. And go in store. I got my Carolina Herrera dress (originally $6,000) for $1,200. Brand new. They carry overstocked and last year dresses, but it's all Kenneth Pool. Amasale, Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang, Carolina, Junko Yoshioka, Priscilla of Boston, Melissa Sweet, etc etc. The sales women are so nice and helpful and it is well worth the trip. I highly recommend. Also, if you don't see something you like immediately, they get new dresses in all the time.
gorgeous!

I don't mean to be disagreeable, but I did not like Vows. It depends on the type of experience you want when purchasing a dress. It is a little hectic there and I did not feel like it was a special experience.
I know a lot of girls who got their dresses there and swear by it, but it wasn't for me.
Plus, since it is MA you will pay tax! Ok, I think I have endorsed NH bridal salons enough!
I somewhat agree with Erindesmar. I went there 3x, once on a Saturday. DO NOT GO THERE ON SATURDAYS. My Saturday experience and my mid-week experience were totally different. If at all possible try to go during the day on a weekday.
Also, while I did pay tax... my gown was so heavily discounted (purchase for WELL under 1K) it was still WAY cheaper than anything I had looked at previously.
Haha Erindesmar! I dont think anyone can over endorse buying in NH! Anyone to save a penny I'm all for!! especially since I live in NH!!
why would you post a question and then post the answer to your own question?
I haven't seen it posted yet so I'll plug Bridals by Valerie in Reading MA. Its just north of I-95 on 28. I had a really good experience there, spend the morning trying on all sorts of fun dresses and the woman who was helping me was one of the seamstresses so she was very knowledgeable on things that could be adjusted. They were running a great deal too earlier this year which got me 20% off of my dress, yip!
pyratem! I should have added that to my earlier reply! Someone PM'ed me about that shop before and I forgot about it!! Thanks for adding it!!
By the way I think Madeline's Daughter is having some Trunk Shows this month. You may want to check it out.
Marry & Tux in Nashua was my first stop and where I finally purchased my dress. I would have ordered the BM dresses there, too, but I ended up winning a David's Bridal gift certificate that I used to help pay for their dresses.
While I'm not a fan of David's Bridal, I have to say, if I had to do it all again, even without the gift certificate, i would still choose David's. Our little helper was great and I loved that the BM dresses were available in ALL sizes to try on.
Best of luck!

So I know sooo many people who have had nightmare situations at David's Bridal! So I want to stay away from there as much as possible! Anyone had some good experiences at Bridal Shops north of Boston MA, South of Portsmouth, NH?
