At a recent bridal expo, I won 50% off a videographer at my wedding. I’m wondering what you think about using them, assuming, of course, that their work isnt terribly bad and they are not way overpriced (so that there really is no discount).
Has anyone had any experiences with these dilemas? (I also won 50% off a lighting package at a different bridal show and now my fiance thinks I’m crazy because I wasn’t planning on having lighting and now I only want it because I feel like we’re getting a "good deal".

I’m with your fiancee – if you wanted videograpphy and special lighting, now you have a chance to save lots of money! If you didn’t, then re-evaluate it – are you getting it because it’s a good deal, or will it fit more easily inside your budget now that you have a deal, so you’re willing to move things around.

Oooh, I’m so bad about that! I’ll see like a "CD Rewinder" at the store for 65% off and I’ll think "Ooh!! i’m saving 65%!" But the reality is that you are spending that other 45%. If you don’t need lighting, ask if you can give it to another bride you know. Would your guests even notice? Sometimes when I’m not sure about something for the wedding I ask myself if the guests would even notice. If not, I opt out. Why spend money on something no one will remember (not even you!)?

PS- You are lucky!! Can you come with me to the next Bridal Bizaar??

I am exactly like you. I can’t pass up a good deal even if I really didn’t need the item in the first place. Maybe I will skip the lighting but use the videographer.

Congrats on winning some discounts! Did you check out the videographer’s website to make sure you like their work? If the work is worth the $$ that you will be shelling out then go for it. Or maybe this videographer has a photography/video package deal that they could give you the discount on if you hadn’t intended to have a videographer originally.

I’m not sure of your exact situation, but I would advise you to be careful. My girlfriends and I went to a bridal show once where we all "won" discounts from certain vendors. (They were really just giving everybody the discount because their work was overpriced.)
I say, if you like their work, and feel that the discount is actually getting you a good deal, then go for it!
