What a bummer! I just got an invite to a friend’s bridal shower, and I made sure not to mention it to her for this very reason. Maybe your friends just don’t know that brides don’t plan their own showers…

Aww, I’m sorry that your surprise party got ruined!  I’m sure you’ll still have a lot of fun though!

I think it’s actually fairly common (at least around here) for people to RSVP to the bride, especially if it’s a Bridesmaid or Best Man that’s throwing the party.  Many people just don’t feel comfortable calling up a stranger to let them know they’re coming or not, so they just tell the bride instead.  I had a few people go through the Bride when I was planning her shower.  Luckily it was not a surprise, haha.  I also know that when my Maid/Matron of Honor threw my shower, a few people RSVP’d to me too.

It’s possible that your friends didn’t know it was a surprise?  Since it’s being held at your house, maybe they assumed you must know about it.  I’d probably assume that (my shower was at my house and not a surprise).

I hope you have fun at it at least!

Aw, that stinks!  I’m sure they meant no harm, I bet they feel terrible right now.  Clearly they just weren’t thinking!  You’ll still have a wonderful shower I’m sure.

You know what it is… even though it’s written 2 -3 times on the invite that it’s a surprise my observation has been that people really just don’t pay attention. It doesn’t matter how smart they are it’s still the same case.

We’re having people RSVP to our wedding on our website. We sent out a separate card letting people know that they need to RSVP online for this exact reason. Fiance thought it’d be okay to just put it on the invite but I convinced him that it wouldn’t be enough.

Don’t dwell on it too much. You’re going to have such a good time, even if the surprise was ruined. Just be lucky that you have people that care about you enough to try to pull this off. 🙂
