Ok so my sister is getting married and I have been given the task of games at her shower (among other things). She is very adamant that she does NOT want to open presents in front of everyone. She wants games that will help everyone to learn a little more about each other as there are a lot of people attending that don’t know each other. She’s not into the spice games or the build a wedding dress games etc. I’ve searched and I’m kind of stuck so looking for some fun and different game that will help everyone get to know each other better . . . help!

Do a crossword puzzle or word search! I had a crossword puzzle at mine because I didnt want the typical games and it worked out really well. There were about 15 questions about us to fill in for the crossword and the person who got the most right won.
You can also do something with celebrity couples. One shower I went to (it was a baby shower but you can do it for a bridal shower) we each got a notecard with a celebrity couple on it. We had to hold it above our head and not look at it and then go around and ask people questions to try and figure out who we “were”
I know this isnt what your thread is about, but you mentioned your sister doesnt want to open gifts in front of people, but you should let her know that this is expected of her at a shower and she should really reconsider. If I went to a shower and the bride didnt open the gifts I would be a little upset. The whole point of the shower is to give the bride gifts so its anticlimatic to me to not have the bride open the gifts at the shower. You can set a kitchen timer to go off every 5 minutes or so and whoevers gift she is opening gets a small gift. This will keep peoples attention more on WHAT gift she is opening and not necessarily her.

I just co-hosted a couples shower for my little sis and her Fi, and everyone said they had a really good time! One game we played was The Newlywed Game. I think it would be hilarious to ask for some volunteer “couples” from the guests to help participate. Like your sis and her MOH (or your mom) could be a couple, your crazy aunt and your neighbor, your sister’s best friend and your grandma, etc…
We also played a game intended to let guests know the couple a little better. I made a questionnaire up of about 15 questions and asked my FBIL to fill it in before the party. Then, I asked my sister the same questions, and compared their answers. I used regular questions like “When was your first kiss?”, “How did you meet?”, and “Where was your first date?” I also asked some silly questions like “Fill in the blank. The bride has an unnatural obsession with ______?” and “If you were a Hollywood couple who would you be?” We also played this game at my bridal shower, and it turned into a drinking game, so I was knocking back spiked punch for every question I got wrong. Lol, I think the regular version is just as fun!

I second Mrs. Spring – I think the “get to know the couple” type games also help people open up with each other. I made a “get to know the bride” game, asked questions like “what was her first job” “what kind of car does she drive” “where is her dream vacation” and a few couple questions “when did they meet” “where was their first kiss” etc. We gave a prize for the guest who had the most correct answers but we also asked her FI to answer them and went over his answers at the end, he got 14/15! Anyway this is a good game for people to get comfortable with each other – when she would say an answer everyone would sort of chat with each other about “oh, I didn’t know that about her, oh I thought it would have been this, oh and I remember when she did this”. Hope that wasn’t too long. PM me if you want more of the questions. The game was really fun.

omg! a great twist on the get to know the couple game that my bm’s did to me (which I swore to get them back for!!!) they made up questions and called FH the week before, at the shower I got asked the questions-some of which were TOTALLY joke questions (FH’s favorite animal is soooooooooo not a panda!)…well for every question I got wrong I got a piece of gum-BUBBLE gum the huge hubbabubba type! So you can imagine after several joke questions and a mouthful of gum I could barely talk-everyone was laughing, so was I but i had to be careful not to spit out the gum! it was fun 🙂
