    Hi bees,

I'm a BM and our bride's shower is coming up. She has specifically said several times she does NOT want gifts from her BMs because she knows all the costs of her wedding, etc. (wedding is out of the country). She's also not a huge 'stuff' person, it was tough to even get her to register.

So, we're obviously getting her gifts, but we're trying to go sentimental. Some of us are crafty, and we'll use those skills. I'm making an elegant garter, but I'm trying to think of suggestiongs for the other BMs. Any nice, sentimental, not too expensive ideas?

I heard of one where you get a few bottles of wine and label them - one for 1st anniversary, one for 1st big fight, etc but I can't remember the rest. Can anyone elaborate or have any great ideas?

What was the best gift you received as a bride? (She's the first of the group, so we're all novices) Thanks!

Cute idea! I've seen this done with undies from Victoria's Secret and it was a hit. http://www.projectwedding.com/post/list/the-panty-poem-bridal-shower-gift

Have you looked on etsy for wine related wedding stuff? Something else that's nice as a shower gift (that isn't "stuff") is a mani/pedi before wedding, massage gift certificate...

A friend of mine got a wine basket and all of the wine bottles had cute sayings on them with when and why to drink the bottle. It was awesome.

My favorite gift from my shower was the cook book my girls made. The asked everyone invited to email a recipe and a picture of the meal and made it online. My book looks like a professional book but has cute pictures of my goddaughter next to her cookie recipe and notes from all of the people who sent them in.  A few even sent a recipe for a long marriage. From what the ladies said it was not expensive and I love it.

The staff at your local specialty wine stores will be able to help you pick wines that will age well.

Some wineries recommend giving a dessert wine for a 1st wedding anniversary, a champagne for a 5th wedding anniversary, and a port for a 10th wedding anniversary.

I made “First comes love”, “Then comes marriage” & “And then reality sets in” gift bags for my friends shower (I was a BM and threw the whole shower myself so I didn’t want to spend a fortune on her gift). All together it was around $100 but it can be done for cheaper, depending on what you include…

“First comes love”: Nice picture frame with a pic of her and her (now) DH when they were dating, 2 tickets to a local hockey game (their first date was at a hockey game) & a bottle of KY Yours and Mine (inside joke).

“Then comes marriage”: Sexy lingerie, a wedding day survival kit that I made using a $ store tool box and a bunch of travel size stuff, a cute “Do Not Disturb” sign, a GC to a nail salon so she could get her nails done for the wedding (she was broke and planning on doing her own nails), a bottle of champagne and 2 glass champagne flutes.

“And then reality sets in”: Flannel PJ’s, granny panties that were comically large, rubber gloves, some cleaning supplies and a gigantic bottle of extra strength Tylenol.

    It was a hit.

you could do a fun, but practical gift from all the girls where everyone buys basics to start a kitchen

Go to the dollar store and buy sponges, salt, pepper, garlic powder, rubber gloves, dish towels, wooden spoon, dish soap, egg timer, etc.- all stuff you can find at the dollar store and some stores are much better than others with more selection

You could do a nice basket for only $20-30 total
