I base my spending on the person. I feel like it also depends on your area. In Boston, I feel like most people spend around $50. Although my sister's shower was last weekend and some people were a lot more generous. I think it really depends on your relationship to the couple. It also depends on how much you can afford. There are no real rules on how much you should spend.
For me, it depends on the person. If I'm close to the person, the gift is more meaningful or more expensive. If it someone I'm just friends with or an acquinantance I usually just buy something on the registry under $40.
As for the no gift wrapping, I've never heard that before.
It really depends on my relationship to the person. If I'm not super close to the person I might by a couple low ticket items and keep the total gift under $40. For a close friend or family member I would probably spend closer to $50 or $60.
I've never been to a shower where it was requested that gifts not be wrapped. Maybe the bride is subconscious and doesn't want to open gifts in front of everyone?
friend/acquaintance - around $30-40
close friend/distant family - around $60-$75
close family - $100 at most
Friend or distant family I usually spend about $25. Close family or friend, $50.
I agree that it depends on your relationship to the person -- and if you have a role in the wedding. Closest family/friends or in the wedding, we do $100+, but for most everyone else, we do $50-75.
Yes i agree that it depends on the person. And i also hate going to more then one shower without a gift. So if I know I'm going to multiple showers for the same couple I'll try to get small gifts so that I can bring something.
I think it depends on the relationship and the number of showers...my fiance went to his friend's 3rd shower this weekend, and he only spent $20 (he's already dropped $150 on gifts and another $150 on the bachelor party). His gift for the wedding will be more generous, but the showers are getting to be so expensive that this is what we had to do so that we can get them something nice for the wedding.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
Just curious as to how much you would typically spend on a gift for a bridal shower? If you use the registry,do you buy just one item or more? Does it matter if its for a family member (meaning, would you be more generous?)
Have any of you ever attended one where it was requested that gifts not be wrapped? Did you like it?
Thanks!
