I once attened an Around The Clock shower where everyone was given a time of day on their invite - and they had to bring a gift that you would use at the time of day. It was so much fun! Not to mention way interesting gifts when they times rolled around to 10 pm and 1 am - they got booze, lingerie, "toys" - it was a blast!
"diamonds are a girls best friend".... just get lots of sparkley decorations
~stilletto party - everyone wears their fave pair, and a new pair is given to the bride-to-be to wear on her honeymoon (think 6" clear heels)
~chick flick - everyone buys the brdie-to-be their fave wedding-themed chick flick (ie runaway bride, the wedding planner, monster-in-law, etc)
~the hat party - everyone wears their fave hat whether it's a baseball cap, cowboy hat, beret, etc
~we love the 90s (or whtever decade you want) and dress in that era
Assign people rooms of the house, and each gift has a room theme.
Have a board game themed party. Gifts don't have to give the games, but have decorations activities based on the games.
