Meeeeee!!!!  My sister-in-law spoke briefly at their wedding six years ago and I’ve always known I wanted to stand up and have my say! haha.  I’m going to be very brief and will speak off-the-cuff – I actually feel more comfortable with that (and basing it on how the day has panned out and what I’m feeling at the time) rather than scripting anything.  I used to do impromptu debating (basically you had 30 minutes prep and had to run with it) so maybe that’s got something to do with it 😛

bourkelton:  *raises hand* My FI is similar to yours and doesn’t feel comfortable talking infront of people, so Im going to start off the speech and he’s going to end it.

bourkelton:  Im not too sure about mine either, when he found out he had to read vows by himself he went pale and stunned mullet   O.O    haha, but his mum told him he has to get up and at least say how beautiful I looked, and thankyou. Needless to say, I’ve been hearing him whinge all week about his “speeches” LOL

Sunbeam-bride:  Oh dear!  I’m sure he’ll be so taken by you on the night he’ll relax and be more comfortable with the idea 😉

We’re not doing personalised vows for that reason though, FH was terrified he’d stuff it up and he really liked the traditional ones (in sickness & in health etc).  Given we’ve been through a lot of “in sickness or in health, for richer or poorer” the past year it’s actually quite appropriate, even if our guests don’t realise that!

We actually are going to greet and thank our guests along with our priest at the beginning of the ceremony, right after I walk up the aisle, kiss my daddy on the cheek and am handed over to my FH. That way we’ll be sure to catch anyone who might not be able to stay for the reception 🙂

I did. My husband said a few words first, then I took over and thanked everyone for coming and told everyone how much we appreciated their love and support on that day and in our marriage. It was pretty casual because I didn’t exactly get it scripted in the madness of the last couple days before the wedding. But I thought it was nice. It’s one of my favorite video clips to watch back.

We went around and thanked our guests one at a time. That’s normally what the couple does after eating while everyone else is still finishing their meals since the B&G, as the guests of honor, are served first.

Both of us want to speak.  I am always have something I’d like to get out.  It will surprise no one that I’m going to have my own speech.
