Brides opting for palladium or platinum wedding rings?

The main differences between palladium and platinum are that platinum scratches more easily and so develops a ‘patina’ more quickly, and platinum is denser (so a ring of the same thickness as one in palladium will be heavier). Also, more jewellers work with platinum than palladium so it can be easier to get things like resizing done (though a good jeweller should be able to work with both), and palladium is, of course much cheaper (where I am it’s at least 60% cheaper than platinum). We chose platinum as we like the patina (OH particularly), and the ‘heft’. Otherwise, in terms of durability they are equal, and both are naturally white metals. Both are a great choice so it really comes down to personal preference.

i very nearly went for palladium WR but went for a platinum as i wanted the colour to match my ER completely. (also, our jeweller came in ALOT cheaper than we thought so i could upgrade to platinum within our budget) my DH chose to go for the Palladium as the platinum version of his ring was INSANELY expensive due to the size and weight. i would say that i thought the colour between the 2 metals differed SLIGHLTY but other than that both metals are the same – DHs ring has just as much wear on it as mine.

palladium will last just as long as platinum. i would say try both on and go for what makes you happy.

I’d stick with palladium. They are from the same ‘family’ but platinum is stronger so that would probably put me off mixing… like you said 40 years down the line you want wear and tear to be a minimum. I don’t own any palladium but as it was explained to me it’s a great metal, naturally hypoallergenic like platinum and you’ll have no problems with re-coating; it’s not necessary. The patina part of platinum is true but it adds to the beauty in my opinion and it’s hard wearing as the metal simply displaces if knocked, so any scuffs and bumps can be smoothed out easily. Palladium shares all these qualities. If it’s what you’re wearing already I’d stick with it.

I have been wearing a platinum band for 10 years now and I never take it off. Has held up great and I still love it. Can’t speak to palladium.

Palladium is just as durable as platinum, so you should not have an issue with constantly wearing a band of either metal. FWIW, I’ve been wearing my palladium e-ring for 4 years and my palladium wedding ring for 3, and have had no issues with either one.
