i cant see the other pics. I'm like you though. stick straight hair. I'm trying to go half up curly. good luck me! I think its like giving myself a death sentence.
I think that looks good, still! My hair doesn't really hold a curl either, so I think the trick is to overcurl it and use good products.
Actually, my friend (who is Asian, as am I) just got her hair permed at Vietnamese salon, and it looks awesome. When I think of perms, I think really curly hair, but hers just looked naturally wavy. I might have to try it myself, although the thought does make me nervous!
I have stick straight hair, and trust me, a good stylist can make it work! I couldn't believe how curly she made my hair before she put it up! I've never been able to get my hair to curl like that! And it stayed up (and curly) all night, and actually, even after sleeping, the curls were still there! You just need a stylist that is very good at updos! :)
@Chartreuse - I have the same kind of hair, and have had an updo as a bridesmaid that was similar to the top part of the first pic you posted. It stayed all day because the hairdresser not only curled my hair beforehand, but then looped each curl and secured it with bobby pins. So the curls looked like curls, but were really loops. Then she hairsprayed it like crazy.
I have very very very stick straight hair, but I would do some research as to what hairspray works for you- because a good STRONG hairspray can make a big difference.
My hair is exactly the same way! I can super curl my hair and 30 minutes later it's completely straight. I've found a couple products that will help hold it for almost 2 hours, but not very well. I'd like a similar style to the first photo you showed, so I'm hoping my stylist has some magic hairspray!
That's just my problem... so I'm getting an updo! It's something special, because I always wear my hair down.
I think an updo is even better for a summer-wedding (when it's hot) and for dancing ('cause it stays better in place).
A curling iron really isn't going to do a whole lot. I would suggest going to a salon and having them try wet rollers - they wash your hair and use a strong potion (fingerwave or something similar in strength), roll your hair, and plop you under a dryer until it's completely dry. You would have better luck with that. You can curl with a curling iron and all the hairspray you want, but usually with natural stick straight, silky hair it won't last more than an hour or so.
My hair is like this but luckily my sister is a hair stylist. She taught me to curl my hair with a straightener instead of a curling iron and the curls actually stay in my hair! It is worth a try.
Count me in with the stick straight hair girls. The best curl I've gotten has been either Mattel's suggestion of letting your hair actually dry and set in curlers, or flat iron curls suggested by MtgBride. I do flat iron curls at least once a week and I can sleep on them for 2 nights and STILL have curls the 3rd day. The difference is that the flat iron actually presses the "curls" in and is actually straightening it in a bend, different from curling. All that being said, for my wedding I'm most likely going with an updo to avoid flat hair by the end of the night. Good luck to all my straight-haired sisters!
My hair is dead straight!! I'm doing an up do, only cause its a destination wedding. But have you ever tried pin curls??? On dry hair, you take sections of your hair, big or small, use a curling iron, take the curl you made and pin to your scalp. Do it the night before, sleep with it, wrap a cloth, bandana. You can also do it couple hrs before your wedding. I garantee you'll have last longing curls. I hope you understood my explanation. My fiancee is a hair stylish, and he does thai on me all the time. Good luck!
My hair is super straight and thin, and I had pretty low hopes going into it. But the first trial I went to was magic...the hairdresser wet-rollered my hair, and when it was set/dry, she went over the curls again with a flat iron (curling hair with a flatiron...go figure). Then she used industrial strength hairspray (that magically didn't feel rock-solid), and voila. My hair was set, in curls, for nearly 10 hours. Even after I showered the next morning, my hair was still wavy (kinda gross?). Anyways, I'm sure if you find a good hairstylist, they'll have plenty of suggestions. Good luck!
How about something like this? You can cover your ears, at least the pointy part and you can still have a little bit of curl. I have the same EXACT problem, my hair is pin straight and won't take curl. This is the look I'm going to try out because there's just a little curl in the front but her hair is layered so the shorter the hair the more likely the curl will stay. And the rest is just a matter of how the pin it, to look like its curly.
As a fellow pin thin stick straight hair bride, I feel all of your pain, and unfortunately hair doesn't understand that a wedding is special, and it should work really hard at not falling!
I have a friend who wore her straight hair curled, and by half way through the ceremony, it looked ratty and messy, because all the hairspray kept everything seperated, but not very curly.
So I guess my advice would be, "love the one youre with" in a sense. Don't try and make your hair do something it wont. Embrace what you've got and be honest with your stylist. If you really want curls, have them pinned in place. I can't tell you how many hair stylist's have told me that "their" method will keep the curls in, because they do it "differently". They don't. My hair will fall. So lets work with what we've got and make it awesome.
i agree with bubblybride, have the hairdresser pin the curls with bobby pins.
What my hairdresser suggested that helped me was having your hair be a little dirty. I HATE my hair because it's oily and doesn't hold a style at all. However I realized it was because before styling I'd shower- since I didn't want it to get oily early. If I shower FIRST THING in the AM the day of an event, by the time I do my hair, it holds better. Not amazing, but better.

I kind of like this hairstyle in the first pic, but my hair never holds curls good, as shown in the last 2 pics.....I was maid of honour for my friends wedding...that's the hairdresser curling it, then thats how it ended up by the time the ceremony started
Should I just forget about it and do a complete updo? Anybody have pics of updos that cover pointy ears?? lol
