I’m in a bit of a pickle. My wedding is in June 2013 and I have run into a potential problem. One of my bridesmaids; who was getting married herself in May 2013, recently lost her fiancee in a car crash. I can completly understand if she would no longer want to be in my wedding.
How do I approach the topic? I would need to know relativly soon in order to replace her if she no longer wanted to be in the wedding. I would need to get another dress and such. I would still love her to be in the wedding but I do not want her to be uncomfortable. I would need to ask her whether or not she is still going to be in the wedding, but when and how do you ask someone a question such as that when she lost her fiancee just a week ago?
What are my options? I thought about just asking another girl to be a “back-up” bridesmaid just in case. The issue with that; however, is what if my first bridesmaid decides that she will be in the wedding and this “back-up” bridesmaid already purchased her dress and accessories in such short notice. I would feel horrible that she had to spend her money on things that she will not use.
I would like to have even numbers in my bridal party so just going with 3 bridesmaids and 4 groomsmen is kind of out of the question for me.
Any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
