I think this gown is gorgeous! It would probably look more bridal in a lighter shade closer to ivory but either way, I think it would be a great dress.
I think it's a great idea! And I'm sure other people on WB have done this. I just can't remember names right now... Anyway have you decided what color you are going to get the dress in? I really love it in the color shown, but I think it would be just as gorgeous in an off-white or champagne color, too.
I think it's a great idea too & what a fantastic price for such a beautiful dress!
I've actually suggested that brides look into bridesmaid dresses as their wedding dresses in order to save some money. And I think that dress would look gorgeous as your wedding dress! Go for it! And enjoy that extra money you save :D
Gorgeous! I think it's definitely a more affordable way to go. And if you don't tell them, they probably won't even know!
Thanks! I think I have finally decided to order it in Candlelight. A lot of Jim Hjelm & Alvina wedding dresses come in that color. I've kind of been against getting a white dress from the beginning. I think the Candlelight is a nice alternative.
That dress in candlelight will be absolutely gorgeous. Besides, there are plenty of wedding dresses that cost 5x as much, but have very similar silhouettes to that gown. It seems that the big difference is what label the designer decides to slap on it!
I think that dress is fantastic -- honestly, I was going to buy a BM dress to use as a wedding dress until my mom foudn one she couldn't live WITHOUT me having. I think it's a totally underutilized resource - some BM gowns are fantastic for bridal wear, in my opinion.
I think that dress is gorgeous, and perfect for a destination wedding. I say go for it!
Thanks for all the positive words! I went ahead and ordered the dress today in Candlelight....so excited!!
You could also check out White House/Black Market for good dresses. My boss's sister used them for her wedding dress, and it was stunning.
I was going to do the SAME thing - order a bridesmaid dress in ivory....I tried several on, and to be perfectly honest I didn't feel any different being in a bridesmaid dress versus the bridal dresses that I tried on. It's gorgeous, and I promise that if you don't tell anyone your "secret" they won't know...
I haven't found it yet, but unless I stumble on an amazing sample or used bridal gown, I'll be going the white bridesmaid's dress route. Actually, I think it will work better for me because the fabric is so light I'll have a much easier time dancing and not overheating.
Congrats on finding your dress!
that dress is GORG!!! I used to work in a bridal salon and had quite a number of brides purchase BM dresses as their wedding dress. There were a number of reasons why they did this but they all ended up looking fantastic! As long as you feel beautiful in your wedding dress, that's all that matters! p.s. with the style and detail on that dress, I really don't think anyone will know the difference!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress! Wow, I can't say it enough!!! Gorgeous!!!!
I too bought a b'maid dress instead of a traditional wedding dress..its by Bari Jay. I love it but wonder if its too casual..its chiffon with ruched top and a wide sash. Its my second wedding so I thought maybe a traditional dress may be too much.I love the one you have though its totally gorgeous
There are so many bridesmaids dresses now that can pass as a wedding gown, esp. for beach or destination weddings. I think that is a beautiful gown. Good luck.
wow, I personally LOVE that dress, especially for a destination wedding, on the beach, in the sun!
however I do think that since it is satin it could be a little hot. Take it from me, a bride who planned her first go at her wedding (Yup first, I called it off and were now back on with completly different plans) with going to mexico. we had everything booked and I went out and got a heavy heaaavy dress ha ha I knew it was going to be horriblely hot (or maybe I knew subconciously I was going to call it off? ha ha) either way just make sure your comfortable, you want to look beautiful, not like your going to have heat stroke and sweating bullets :)
I say go for it, if you want a bridesmaid dress, you certainly can find one that will work for you to be a beautiful bride! good luck!!!
I just did the same thing yesterday! I purchased an impression bridal dress as my wedding dress. At first I was so afraid that people would not think it was a typical wedding dress or that I would miss wearing a more traditional dress. Guess what, I slept on it and when I woke up I could only think about wearing the bridesmaid dress so I knew that it was "the one." Oh, and the price was only $188. <strong class="CPprodPriceT"><strong class="CPprodPriceV">

I LOVE the dress, LOVE the color you picked, it is beautiful!!!
That dress is gorgeous! I also bought a bridesmaids dress as my gown. Here's a pic:
Sarah
those are bridesmaid dresses? How fancy does the bride have to be!!! wow those are great!
That dress is gorgeous! I wanted to do this too, but I couldn't find a bridal salon that carried the dresses in their stores in the ivory/white colors. I would have had to pay first. If it works for you, I say it's A DO!

I'm having a very small destination wedding. As much as I love looking at wedding dresses (especially Vera's) I just can't bring myself to spend that much. I found an Alvina Valenta bridesmaid dress that I love, and to me I think it could pass as a wedding dress. The price is a lot better too, I found it for about $235. Has anyone else done this?
What do you think of this gown?
