I feel like it would probably be pretty expensive to alter the dress like that. I’m assuming that the back would have to be altered in addition to the straps, not to mention that the straps would have to have another piece added on so that they could connect behind the neck (most straps have seams right on the shoulder, meaning they aren’t long enough to cut and sew together). Do your bridesmaids HAVE to wear the same style, or would you be willing to let her choose a different style in the same color/fabric so that she’s more comfortable?

@milobug13:  How does the dress look? Do you have a picture of it? I would guess that you can do it, but it might be expensive for her to do.

If she is a chief bridesmaid does that mean she is like a maid of honor? If so, why can’t she have a different dress or altered to how she wants it, to stand out from everyone? I understand this may not be what your FI wants, but to avoid a costly alteration it may be the most sensible way.

@milobug13:  I would just tell her to length the straps. You shouldn’t make the 3 other bridesmaids pay for alterations on their dresses (or if you are paying for it, you shouldn’t have to either) just because she’s not really too thrilled with it. I don’t think that the dress would look as good as a halter either.
