Davids Bridal is great.  They have many sample sizes and dresses that would look good on a variety of body types.  They also have decent prices.

Alfred Angelo has plus sizes in every dress! I think it would depend on the retailer that you go to how many they have in samples.

My sister got married in 2005 at that time I was 100lbs heavier than I am now.  We ranged from a size 0 to a size 30. Myself and one other girl who was bigger couldn’t try on the dress. When I got in the car after the appointment I cried and was super depressed for awhile. I had to order a dress without ever seeing it on me, which scared me.

So when it was my time I picked David’s Bridal. I had heard stories and blah blah, but I had a similar scenario size 6 to size 24. Everyone got to try on dresses and we tossed some out that didn’t look good on everyone.  I think the bigger BM’s left feeling better than I did.  As well, David’s Bridal has been great to work with. My Maid/Matron of Honor just found out she was pregnant and they let her return her dress and get a bigger size. Very few places would have ever done that, she would have had to buy another dress. It’s been a good experience all around.

I’m a plus sized girl who had a horrible experience with David’s Bridal as a bridesmaid.  I think if you are just going to walk in a pick up a dress off their rack then it might be okay… but I’d recommend going to a Nordstrom’s, Saks, or Bloomies to find a beautiful dress that you can try on that is worth the price.  Even if you don’t purchase the gown there… it will help you see what styles look good on your girls!  I’d recommend talking with them as well, because they will probably have an idea of what is a flattering look on their own body.

I had a great experience at DB. I have a full figured bm also. She had a hard time but my consultant was amazing with her. I think my Bridesmaid or Best Man was frustrated, uncomfortable and maybe overwhelmed. She took some into a changing room and came out looking frustrated. My Bridesmaid or Best Man then went to pick out some more dresses and my consultant intercepted the issue and discretely took my Bridesmaid or Best Man to a back changing room and helped her feel comfortable and enjoy the experience. I don’t know what size your BM’s will need but they didn’t have my BM’s size but she fit into one smaller (well enough) to get the general idea. It just depends on if they have the size she needs in the dress you/she wants in the store. I think all of the girls had to try on one that didn’t fit.
