I am a bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding that is coming up in a couple of weeks. She didn’t get engaged until the end of April, so it was a scramble to get bridesmaid dresses in the color she wanted in on time. At the fitting, the lady measuring us pulled the tape very tight around each section (if this is normal or not, I don’t know), so all of the dresses she brought me to try on were a bit snug, but not overly uncomfortable, and the next size up just looked too big.
Anyways, our dresses came in yesterday, and even though I had bought a pair of Spanx, the dress still seems to be too snug under my bust line/around my ribs, where I literally cannot lose weight, because it’s bone.
My mom said it looks fine, that the material isn’t bunching up too much, but I still feel as though I look like I’m wearing a dress too small. According to the place where we bought the dresses, there is no time to get any alterations done in time, and I don’t think it’d be easy to let it out anyways.
I’ve included a picture, so my question is, does it look too snug around my waist line? I’m on the LEFT, and my sister is on the right (I sometimes think part of the problem is I think I look huge next to my shorter, thinner sister). I also have a larger chest, so dresses don’t always fit “right” or look “right” because of that.
Any suggestions on what to do/how to make it look not so snug would be greatly appreciated!

@Twyla_Smith: Aww sweetie! 🙁 I do honestly think that it looks fine, but it’s really hard to stand next to a tiny tiny tiny tiny girl like your sister! (My sister is also the tall/skinny one between us – next to her I always manage to look like a truck) I actually really like how the dress sits on you and that if I put my hand over your sister, you look great! Don’t you worry, you look beautiful!

I think it looks fine (can you sit and breathe in it?), but yeah, they are NOT supposed to pull the measuring tape tight!

First of all, you and your sister have almost the same body types as my sister and I! She’s about an inch taller than me but has always been super skinny and I’m not. You can’t tell in the picture that it feels too tight. The color and cut look very nice on you and you’ll be a gorgeous BM. Once the dress is steamed it might help too? One of my BM’s hated the way her dress fit (similar problem, it felt too tight) but when she steamed it, it relaxed a little bit and she felt fine in it that day.

I think you can leave the bust and waist the way they are.
If there is any fabric in the hem to lengthen it a bit? I think that would help give it a longer, leaner look. Hems can be done in a short time.

@vorpalette: Yes, I can sit and breathe and everything just fine, but I did find it weird about the measuring tape.
@hogoboom2012: I’ll try steaming it to see if that helps – I’d never thought of doing that!
@julies1949: There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of extra fabric, but I’m going to have my aunt take a look when she gets back from vacation!
