Im really frustrated with finding a bridemaid dress, I feel like its a losing battle.  Our wedding is black tie option so we want something thats long. I would like the dresses to be flowy in a chiffon charmeuse or chiffon. Ideally we want a sort of greyish blue color like the dress below. I dont want any bright colors and nothing thats too charcoal grey. Budget is not really an issue for any of my girls, but we still cant find the right dress! Ive looked everywhere all the department stores and most of the bridemaid dress designers. Theres a thread dress we LOVE, but they dont seem to have the right color either( and I dont like having to pick a dress from a tiny swatch) Can anyone help im growing desperate! I know were being kind of picky!

I couldn't find exactly what I wanted either, so I am going to make my girls gowns. I suggest finding a pattern that fits your criteria and then either making them yourself or find a seamstress to make them for you.

I thought about that, but theres only 6 months until my wedding. If they dont turn out right we would be screwed. It makes me nervous to trust someone to make the dresses and not be able to see them until close to the wedding.

Have you tried Alfred Angelo? They have like 56 different colors you can order dresses in and I believe I recall seeing the color you've described on their color pallette. www.alfredangelo.com

@ chexmixDC I was just looking at that dress the other day, I want to see it in person.

@Habibah14 we did look at jim helm and i was thinking about the cornflower blue until the consultant told me the color was hideous in person.

Have you checked out Style Me Pretty's LookBook for bridesmaids' dresses? I just took a glance, and it looks like Jenny Yoo has some elegant, long, chiffon bridesmaids dresses.

If budget isn't an issue, but time is, how about silk chiffon dresses from Jcrew.  They're from their wedding dress collection, so they're about $400.  You could get free shipping if you ordered them through the store and if you're lucky, you could find a coupon.

what about priscilla of boston?  she has a ton of beautiful bridesmaid dresses.  the girls in my wedding are wearing this one (the back view of the dress shows the color better than the front view for some reason):

You should go find the fabric you want in a fabric store.  Then do an Etsy alchemy request to find a dress maker who will make what you want with that fabric.  I think it's the best way to get what you want and have something completely unique.

@lady goodman I like the dresses, but hate the fact that you cant try them on!

@marlie we have looked at priscilla of boston, but may look again.

@fanatic888 I dont like the idea of girls not be able to try dresses on. A couple of them are big busted and particular abou the fit of a dress on top.

This was the dress we liked the most, but the grey is so dark. Im not sure if that will match our colors. We didnt know what color to get. Sorry the pic is a little blurry it was taken from my i phone.

@july112010 - If you call your local Jcrew and request to speak to the personal shopper, they can order up to 3 dresses that you want, in the sizes and colors you want them.  They can do this even if they don't normally carry wedding stuff.  If your girls try them on and like them and want to buy them then and there, they can, if they don't, they can walk away.  Plus, free shipping.  My BMs and I are trying on dresses at a Jcrew in a few weeks through their personal shopper.

A few days and I think Jcrew has within 5 days of receiving the dresses to send them back. I believe my order for trying on the dresses was placed yesterday and I am trying them on on the 30th.  I am not sure when the store will get the dresses but my guess is sometime within 5 days of my appointment.

You can also call the wedding consultant for Jcrew and request a fabric swatch.  I ordered a swatch in graphite silk chiffon (same as the above dresses) and it arrived in less than a week.

Have you tried Dessy.com?  They have the color Platinum which looks very similar to the color in the dresses you posted.

I just wanted to chim in, that if you like the dresses and YOu think it will look great with YOUR wedding, your girls who supposedly love you, will and should wear whatever you picked.

Of course you will pick something thats fabulous for them and fit their body types. I can't stand Bridemaids who are picky about this and that and refuses certain designers. Chill out, it's not their big day... Its YOUR special day, whatever you pick and think will look great on them, they should take take into consideration and be honor to be your BM. I'm not saying your going to put a trash bag over them.

Hope you find the person BM dresses!!

What about just looking at department stores, e.g., Nordstrom, Macy's, Bloomingdales?  I'm getting grey dresses for my bridesmaids (short, not long) and they're coming from Nordstrom.
