A good semestress might be able to but it may need to be styled differently than originaly.

do they by chance make this dress in a tall size so it could be a bit longer?

Oh no! Have you talked to the bride about the dress? What did she say? If the shop or a seamstress just can’t make the additional length work, the bride needs to be able to help you wear something you are comfortable in.

I’m all for short dresses, but ONLY if the bridesmaid is comfortable in the dress.

Looking at that dress, I’m confused as to how it is so short on you. I’m not exactly small, and 5’8, and I have a long torso, and I’d expect that dress to still be appropriate on me. Did you definitely order the right size? Are you basing this on a sample dress or have you tried on your actual dress? Adding length to the bottom of that dress will be very noticeable.

Also, have you brought up these concerns with the bride? Maybe you can order a different style in the same color that is a bit longer on you.

ETA, I’m not saying I don’t believe you; I’m jsut trying to make sure that this dress will actually be too short in reality and not just based on a sample or something.

Eeek! I know that dress, I had my girls try it on but as soon as my 5’9 friend put it on we realized with the slit her butt showed, so it was put back right away. A couple things you could do is first sew that slit up completly so that it doesn’t open at all. You could also use the extra fabric from your friends dress and try and get a seamstress to add it to the bottom, but get them to do it like an extra layer, your dress will look slightly different but you need to feel comfortable.

Could they take the extra fabric and add it to the ruched part in the torso and bring the skirt down a bit? You’d have a longer torso, but being so tall it may not look as out of place as adding to the skirt.

@alleycat1984:  do they by chance carry a full length dress like this?  i know that sometimes david’s bridal carries short versions of some of their long dresses.  anyways, then you can just cut it to an appropriate length.  maybe you can go into the store and ask them.
