Has anyone had any experience with Bella Bridesmaid shops? There are not that many great shops in NJ other than taking a trip into NYC. i’ve heard about Bella’s but don’t know if it’s worth going to the CT store. I’m looking for not so "bridesmaids" bridesmaid dresses. I looked at J. Crew but am not so impressed with the dresses or the colors for a July ’08 wedding. Any advice?

no experience with bella, but i did speak to a j. crew bridal consultant a few weeks ago. i am also a july ’08 bride and have always loved j. crew but was disappointed with their selection (or lack thereof) for bridesmaid dresses. when i brought this up, the sales consultant mentioned that these are their fall/winter colors and styles and that they’ll have the new styles up in february. if you call ahead of time, they’ll put you on the list for new swatches based on your basic color choices. they’re really helpful and sweet on the phone. i requested a few fabric swatches at the time just for texture and they sent me this great little package that also included measuring tape for measuring the girls.
and there’s no commitment. they keep a file on hand for you of all your choices regardless of if you buy from them or not.
hope that helped!

Jerseybride – Are you in North or South Jersey? What style of dress are you looking for? I also found it difficult to see lots of bridesmaids dresses in NJ. Turns out, not every store carries all the designers. In S.Jersey, there is the Bridal Garden (by appt). There is also an outlet place (don’t know the name) in Hoboken/Secaucus. Ultimately I ordered mine from Netbride.com
Also try Macy, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and BCBG.

I just had my bridesmaids buy their dresses at the Bella Bridesmaids in Westport, CT. Rebecca is very nice and professional and always replies promptly to my emails. She has a very small store that is by appointment only, so the personal service and attention is great. I ordered Melissa Sweet bridesmaids dresses there, and they’re scheduled to come in December. In addition to the Melissa Sweet bm dresses (which are very pretty and definitely not your typical bm dresses), she has a good selection, including nicole miller, priscilla of boston, jenny yoo, and blue tux shoes. If you’re in the CT area I definitely recommend you email or call to set up an appointment.

I second snowpear’s reply. I love BCBG dresses and think they offer the unexpected, yet very chic BM dresses. And yes, check out local department stores.
Also, are you located in North Jersey? Bergen County has a handful of stores, why not check out Bijou Bridal? (Miss Peony just did a review on them) And there are a few in Englewood and Englewood Cliffs too I believe.
