So one of my bridesmaids has a dilemma. Here is the dress we have chosen: (ugh I hate the online pics, they do NOT do the dress justice)
So my girl can get a size 12, but it will be way too big in the bust.
Or she can get a size 10 and it will be way too tight in the hips.
What is cheaper to fix? It has like an organza underlay and tulle over top. She says she can lose weight to fit the 10 better.
The dress is not really cheap so I don’t want her to end up paying hoards of cash for the worst alteration need.
I tried it on and it was much too tight for me so it bunched up around the hips and looked bad.

i voted for the wrong one. I meant to vote for too big in the bust because I think it’s easier to take something in than to let something out.

It is always easier (and therefore cheaper) to bring in a dress than to let it out. I’d go for the larger size, for sure.

Always, always order too big over too small. You can bring the dress in where you need to, but it’s much harder/impossible to let it out.

I’d go with too larg in the bust. Taking a dress in, in the bust area not a real alteration challenge. Letting it out in the hip area? More challenging, harder to hide alterations, chance of it splitting when she sits or is dancing.

I voted for the larger size. Like a PP mentioned, it is always cheaper AND easier to take a dress in, than let it out. If she gets the smaller size, their may not even be enough material in the seams to let it out enough. I’d feel much safer getting the size up, than potentially having to reorder the dress, or having to wear a dress that is very ill fitting.
