My bridesmaid called me yesterday to tell me her dress was gone. She was keeping it in her bedroom closet, and it was gone when she came home from work yesterday. It came out that her roommate’s sister took it thinking it was her daughter’s – they had lived in the house previously. She contacted the sister and informed her that it was her dress for a wedding and that alterations are in a month and that it needs to be returned ASAP. The woman said she would find out what happened to it and get back to her. She hasn’t heard anything else.
Not really sure how to handle this. The dress is a 8 week order (wedding is January 11th) and she does need alterations. Her appointment is the first week of December.
My fiance told her to make one more call to this person requesting it back and let her know that the next call would be to the police.

Sounds like a good plan. What a bizarre situation! Good luck!

@JacobsMama: the sister needs to return the dress ASAP. Who takes it without asking? That’s ridiculous!

sounds like a crazy story…. its only been a day (or at least that is how it sounds) so I would give it a little more time
was there bad blood (fight/money issues/etc)? do you think that there is a reason for the sister (SIL?) to steal the dress?

How bizzare is that?!? She just took the dress without making sure whose it was? Christ, I can’t believe some people.
What your FI suggested sounds like a really good plan to me. Good luck, I hope your bridesmaid gets her dress back!

Yes, they are issues there. The house is owned by my friend’s roommates parents and they left it to the roommate in the will. However, the sister is trying to contest the will and have been giving them a lot of problems. They are actually considering just letting them have the house and move elsewhere.
