@yassim: I've found that BM dresses take about 4 months. I just ordered mine for my May wedding last month and had to do a rush fee because they said it would come in on April 27th, ack!
I would start looking now, so that you aren't faced with the same problem. As for a wedding dress, I have heard some take 8 months but it is rare, most seem to come within 4-5.
My girls' dresses were quoted to arrive in 11-16 weeks. But they arrived in 6 weeks! Better early than late!
If you are really worried they won't arrive, go with the non-bridal brands (ie. J.Crew, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor). They ship just like a regular online clothing order so they'll arrive in a week or two with standard shipping.
All my BM dresses are from David's Bridal and I was quoted 4-8 weeks and they came in less than 2 weeks!
It totally depends on the brand. Call around to different stores and check - you'll be surprised by how much it varies.
Ask the shop what the lead times are for various designers. Some come in more quickly than others.
Also, depending on what you're looking for, there are a lot of "mainstream" stores that now carry bridesmaids dresses (or you could even just buy regular dresses from Nordstrom or something!) J Crew, Nordstrom, The Limited, Macy's, Anthropologie, etc all have bridal sections now!
I don't think you have to pay rush ordering fees for your BMs as long as you act fast. My BMs just ordered theirs and we're getting them in 3-4 months. I also have a 6 month engagement and I ordered my dress on day 3 of being engaged!!! Everyone at the salon said I was pushing it, but that Watters is usually faster and it should be here in mid-May. Here's for hoping! :)

I'm getting married in 6 months and I've come to terms with the fact that I may be charged a rush fee. I did find a dress I love, but looking around a few other places and the saleswomen gasp and say "You need at least 8 months!!"
But what about bridesmaid dresses? I would feel really bad if they had to pay a rush fee because of our engagement being short. I'd feel like I'd want to pay it for them, but does the same rule really apply to bridesmaid dresses? I've only been looking at wedding gowns but the BM dresses haven't come up on either side! Curious, thanks!
