I’m having some issues finding the exact bridesmaid dresses that I want. My colors are peach, pastel aqua, and ivory. I’m going for a very romantic, shabby chic wedding. Ceremony & reception are both outdoors on the bay in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. My dresses have to be pastel aqua because one of my bridesmaids is very fair skinned with rosy undertones, so peach would look horrible on her. I’m not going to make one of my best friends look silly just to make me happy.
Originally, I wanted to use J Crew dresses in dusty shale but I feel guilty because my ladies are already having to pay for destination wedding expenses, and these dresses are $280 after tax & shipping. I can help them out, but not $280 per girl.
So, my bridal salon had dresses from Jasmine Bridal (not the china company). I found a comparable dress that was cheaper. Problem is, I don’t like the material as much. They’re a cotton chiffon BUT I like the color (minus the flower!!). I mean, the material is okay, but not exactly what I want.
The company makes another line of bridesmaid dresses in poly-chiffon but they don’t make them in the same color. I called and asked if they could be custom
made and while they do custom dresses, they cannot be done in the cotton chiffon. We saw both dresses in person at the bridal store, and even my mom commented that the poly chiffon looked more expensive.
My other option is to get rid of the pastel aqua dresses & do the dress I like in a slate grey (again, minus the silly flower). This is the poly chiffon dress I was referring to in the paragraph above.
What would you ladies do? Thanks for the suggestions.

If they’re the same price and you don’t have your heart set on that color then I’d probably get the better fabric. They’re both nice colors. But I really think either one would be fine, so if there’s a significant price difference I would go with the cheaper one.

I would have voted for #2 but it sounds like the fabric is more important to you than color. Sounds like a no brainer – go with the slate grey. They are very pretty too

I would sit down and talk to your bm and make sure they can afford that dress keeping in mind someone may have to have alterations. Since they are already paying their expenses in a destination wedding.

I Love dress 1!! However I do feel that’s a bit much to spend on a bridesmaid dress. So for that reason, I’d go with dress #3. Dress #2 really isn’t doing it for me!!

I really am in love with the color of the 2nd picture dress. I’m not thrilled with using slate grey, but I don’t want the dresses to look cheap.
@Latrise: The girls all said they didn’t mind paying the $280 for the J.Crew dresses but I still feel guilty.

I know this isn’t the exact style you are looking for but they have a chiffon dress on Modcloth in the color and fabric you like:
It’s only $74 and in the “reviews” section I found this pic of this dress being used at a beach wedding:

you and i are definitely in the exact same boat and we keep commenting on each others posts about it! i have thought long and hard about this and i think i arrived at a solution. i think we will do jcrew but we are going to hold off unitl black friday, when j crew typically has a 40% off sale. i have read several other threads about other girls taking advantage of that sale. it makes the dresses about $160 or $170, which i think is totally fair. if they do not do that sale this year, then we will go with either the same jasmine bridal dresses you picked (although i am sad to hear they look cheap. i am scoping them out next weekend) or these dresses from alfred angelo (but in a teal blue color):
since our weddings are 1 week apart, we have pretty much the same time frame and i think if we have to order dresses in december we will be ok!

Thanks ladies. I didn’t even think about it when I posted this thread…but will my guys wedding attire look okay with grey dresses?
This is what my guys are wearing:

As a past (6 time) bridesmaid I always appreciated being able to save a little money on a less expensive BM dress. Paying $280 for a dress I’d only wear once would be a little depressing.

I am having the same thought about j. crew! I love their BM dresses, but I’m with ya, I don’t think it’s reasonable to ask all my BMs to pay 280 for the dress – that doesn’t even take into account other expenses like hair, makeup, lodging, etc…depending on your wedding.

The fabric may feel a little cheaper in comparison to the more expensive (too expensive!!) J. Crew dress, but if it’s the color and style you want and is affordable for your girls, you should go with the Jasmine Bridal dresses. You will not be able to tell the quality of the fabric in your pictures (shiny fabrics yes, chiffon not so much) so I wouldn’t worry about them looking cheap. I mean, unless they look REALLY cheap, like sloppy seams, awkward fit, etc. Keep in mind there will be flowers, the girls will have hair and makeup and jewelry, you will be there in all your bridal glory in your dress… the fabric quality of the BM’s dresses won’t be a big deal the day of. $280 is A LOT to ask of your girls, especially if they are going to be putting money towards a lot of other things for the wedding.
I personally don’t like how your guy’s clothes would look with gray dresses. Have you checked out Jordan BM dresses? They have TONS of colors and their chiffon is a good quality for a very reasonable price. http://www.jordanfashions.com/collections/jordan?color=179&hemline_multi=208&limit=40
