- Wedding: May 2014 - Madison, WI
This past weekend my bridesmaids and I all went to shop for bridesmaid dresses! One of my bridesmaids is going to school in the UK so we wanted to order before she leaves at the end of summer. All of my girls are vastly different sizes and body types so I let them each choose their own style in AA chiffon/short length with some guidance from me.
Going in this was our inspiration..
And this is what we ended up with…(3/5 were from our initial inspiration)
We had a great time trying on dresses! But there were some issues we had to deal with for each girl…
Matron of Honor: Is a plus sized girl, street size 18, AA size 22/24 – There were no dresses she could try on in the store. I felt really bad that she wasn’t able to try anything on with the rest of the girls. She held up dresses over her clothes and talked a lot to the sales woman on what would be most flattering for her body type. The higher waist on her dress helps camouflage her “problem areas” and she liked the slightly longer (tea) length to cover up veins on her legs. She is my tallest bridesmaid so I think her having a little more length is fine.
Maid of Honor: Is rocking her new figure! She has lost 55 lbs in the last 4 months!! Down from a size 18 to a size 10/12 (AA Size 14/16) she looked great in a lot of the dresses. Her and BM1 loved a lot of the same styles. In the end she choose her dress because of the neckline and hemline. She’s shorter and figured this hemline would require less alterations – the sample was a great length on her.
Bridesmaid 1: Probably a street size 4, AA size 6/8. Has an ideal body type though she complains about her height and chest (too small in her opinion)…everything looked amazing on her! She loved the sweetheart neckline of this dress and the gathering looks awesome on her too.
Bridesmaid 2: Is also one of my taller bridesmaids, similar in size to me – street size 12, AA size 16/18. But is the chestiest of the bunch. She felt much more comfortable with some straps for extra support. Although she was literally “busting” out of the sample size (8) it looked great on her. This dress also had a stretchy back panel that should lessen the need for alterations which is a huge plus here since this is my international BM! She will not be back until right before the wedding!
Bridesmaid 3: She is a street size 4, AA size 6/8. However, her chest measurement was so small it wasn’t even on the size chart! She’s a 32AA if that, honestly the girl does not need a bra. She’s aware of that and laughed it off! She also has a lot of chest area scars from medical procedures. The dress she ordered was not available in the store for her to try on but we felt the high neckline would be most flattering on her. She tried on the one shoulder and it just didn’t work as well for her. So I hope this one works out.
Conclusion: There you have it! How to try and find dresses for five vastly different looking girls! LOL. They were so grateful to be able to pick their own style. Our sales women also complimented all of us on how great we all were to each other. She said she has seen a lot of “Bridesmaid-Zillas” and not one of my girls had a drop of that in them. They were awesome and I am so excited to see them in their dresses.
