I’m doing:

– a mongrammed bag (nothing wedding-related, just their initials, a pretty bag they can use again)

– a lightweight pretty floral robe they can wear over a shirt to get ready the day of but also will be useful in the future (had them custom made on Etsy to their sizes, regular robes are not really one size fits all when you have an 8 mo pregnant bridesmaid)

– a Camelbak water bottle (love these things and they all use them, it’s always nice to get a new one every few years)

– a light-reading chick-lit book, I picked out a different one for each of them

It came to around $50/bridesmaid. My biggest thing I would say is to NOT get anything wedding themed. It’s cute for the day of but usually junk they won’t use after that – nothing that is monogrammed ‘Bridesdmaid’ or has a wedding dress on it or whatever. Just my personal opinion.

I am also paying for their dresses, hair, and makeup, but I don’t consider that part of the gift (although it is a nice touch, it is customary for them to pay for their own dresses here).

For the two hosting showers for me, I am getting them pretty necklaces (different) as a thank you gift for hosting the showers. No expectation of them wearing them to the wedding, just something that I thought was their style.

I gave:

-hangers with their name in wire (made these myself ~$10 per hanger)

-pink satin robes for getting ready (~$20 from Kohls after coupons)

-bracelet/earring set to wear on the day (Inexpensive (~$10) yet gorgeous  from http://www.rhinestonejewelry.com/ …You can see the earrings in the pic of us toasting)

-Grey scraf/shawl to cover up if cold on the day ($7 from ebay)… these are actually really cute and I see them wear them all the time still.

-paid for hair/nails/toes (some people don’t count this as a gift… but jeez, it’s expensive!)

I also gave them gifts when I asked them to be my B-maids (coffee mug, notepad and picture album with photos throughout our friendship, ending with a photoshop cartoon of them as a b-maid):

So far I’ve gotten my girls:

– Juicy Couture “Viva La Juicy” gift set with Eau de Parfum, Shower Gel & Body Lotion

– The gift sets also came with these adorable tote bags that I’m going to put everything in (I’m hoping everything will fit!):

-Personalized hangers from Two Broads Designs on Etsy, with their name & role (e.g. Maid of Honor, Bridesmaid, & I got one for my mum and FI’s mom too):

– Gold glitter nail polish from Victoria’s Secret

– A pair of shoes each for the ceremony (we’re having a beach wedding), and the the reception:

– I will also be writing each one a nice thank you card (obviously) and I still want to get them a few other things:

  • Their wedding day jewelry
  • A cute pair of PJs or a robe (different design for each girl) to get ready in
  • Maybe a cute pair of sunglasses for each of them (we’re doing a “beach day” the day after the wedding)
  • Maybe a bottle of wine each, or their favorite liquor?
  • Possibly pay for their mani/pedi before the wedding, or pay for them to hair their hair or make-up done on the wedding day (it’s optional if they want to do it, but pretty expensive!)

Also, I plan on getting the BM(s) that host my shower/bachelorette party something  to give them as a thank-you. Not sure what yet though…

Do you think that the gifts are too “wedding-related”? I’ve been reading a few posts about gifts and how a lot of people don’t really perceive the wedding-related stuff (e.g. shoes, jewelry, hair & make-up etc.) as a “gift”… I would love to get my girls something else that is unique to them (e.g. one Bridesmaid or Best Man is in love with everything Michael Kors, another does Triathlons so something related to that might be a good gift, etc.) but I just don’t know if that will be in the budget on top of the things I’ve already bought and still need to buy… Is there a guideline on how much you should spend of each girl’s gift?

@NAvery Who did you get your robes from on Etsy?

@OoOTifsterOoO I did a little gift for each girl when I asked her to be a Bridesmaid or Best Man too.  I love your albums and the cartoon! Too cute!

I haven’t gotten everything yet but here is my plan:

Maid/Matron of Honor

  • Tote bag with her name and quote from Twilight which she introduced me to and we both love
  • A really nice bra probably over $100. She’s quite busty. She hsa a kid and is preggers and is on a tight budget and I know she doesn’t treat herself to “nice thing” for herself. And I recently got an amazing bra that actually fits and I love it!

Bridesmaid 1:

  • Tote bad with her name and “I like big BOOKS and I cannot lie…” because we love the song and actually have a horribly corny dance that we made up to it in college. And she likes to read.
  • The book Freakenomics. She hasn’t read it and she’s very analytic so I think she’ll find it really interesting.
  • A good bottle of wine. She will have recently given birth and I know it was hard to give up alcohol for the pregnancy. I realize that she will be breastfeeding but I think she’ll still be able to either just haev a glass or a half glass or pump and dump.

Bridesmaid 2:

  • Tote bad with her name and a graphic of my favorite quotes from Firefly which she introduced me to and which we both love.
  • A cool framed print of an image from the Hubble telescope. She’s an astrophysicist and some of those images are breathtaking!

Bridesman 1:

  • Some sort of hunting equipment. Not sure what because I don’t hunt but I’m going to beg my hunting uncle for advice.
  • Good bottle of bourbon

Bridesman 2:

  • At least 1 funny T-shirt. Like with pictures of “Paper, Rock, Scissors, Lizard, Spock”. He wears them all the time.
  • Cooking classes in his home town. He always complains that he doesn’t know how to cook. He loves getting out and doing stuff. He is always looking for good ways to meet girls!

That’s what I’ve thought of so far. I’ll undoubtably think of some other things. I tried to think of each person individually rather than of everyone as a group.

Also: The guys will be getting a tie and socks to wear on wedding day and the girls will likely be getting some sort of jewelry. But I don’t count those as gifts, personally. I’ll also probably pay for hair and nails for the girls.

I am getting my 4 BM’s several gifts. Bracelet and earrings, clutch filled with the necessities (i.e. lip gloss, hand sanitizer, floss/toothpicks, hairspray, lotion, bobby pins, gum, etc.) Personalized mirror compact, robes for when they get ready (different color for each), personalized hangers <— all from Etsy! I’m also paying for them to get their hair and makeup done. They are paying for travel, hotel accommodations, and my dream Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses… it’s the least I could do! Plus Etsy has some amazing deals 🙂

@JenGirl:  Your gifts sound AWESOME and so personalized! Not going to lie, I didn’t read “BridesMAN 1” and I thought the gift of hunting equipment and bourbon sounded pretty freakin’ sweet. LOL

I bought my girls cute strapless dresses to wear to the salon to get our hair done (couldnt justify buying the robes when we get our hair and makeup done at the salon, i think wearing the robes there would just be weird haha IMO). I will be paying for their makeup and working on finding them some nice jewelry to wear.

@sweetchiquita12:  The gold glitter flip flops? I got them about 2 months ago I think, from Payless. 😉 They’re called “Women’s Twinkle Flat Flip Flop” and they were only $9.99.  I believe they’re still selling them.  You can’t get them BOGO, but I did find a 20% off coupon code online, and you can get free shipping to you nearest store.

I got a bunch of things I love:

  • a cute sequin make up pouch to put everything in,
  • a sparkly crystal bangle,
  • NARS super orgasm lip gloss,
  • a Hello Kitty pouch as a mini emergency kit:

  • safety pins
  • bobby pins
  • nail polish remover wipes
  • extra earring backs
  • band aids
  • aspirin
  • floss
  • mints

  • some of my fave supplements: vitamin D (for happiness), B-12 (for energy), milk thistle (liver health b/c we will be drinking), etc.
  • a list of my favorite things is now just missing nail polish and big ghetto earrings
  • I would have also loved to get cute silky robes to wear while we’re getting hair and make up done, but I wasn’t able to find a good deal in all of our different sizes – maybe I’ll try Kohl’s and Etsy as mentioned by others!  Thanks for the post!
