If you have no problems with how her hair looks usually, then let her do her own hair. Maybe you can ask her how she intends on doing her hair (let her do a hair trial) and you can give your input CONSTRUCTIVELY.

I’m very particular with my hair and although I’m not natural, I don’t let just anyone in my hair, so I’ve been in weddings where I’ve told the bride I will not allow their stylist to do my hair. Tell me how you want it, and I’ll go to my beautician and she’ll do it. She knows my hair, your friend knows hers.

@servin89:  And keep in mind (because I just thought of this), if she’s natural and won’t do heat on her hair, then you’ll have to understand that it may not look the way you imagine and you may not ever get it there. Lots of the pictures you see, hair is heat treated or chemically treated and then polished. I don’t mind heat on my hair, but I absolutely won’t do chemicals (however, I will weave).

So just talk to her.

@servin89:  I have 6 bridesmaids and the EXACT same issue with one natural one. She always wears horrible synthetic wigs. I think at this point I’ve just sucked it up and come to terms with the fact that her hairstyle may be…..questionable.

Just like with the other brides, you can ask her to do a trial run of the hairstyle she’ll be creating.  Being natural doesn’t mean a mess, but you can ask her to show you.  If she isn’t going to a salon for a financial reason, be senstiive to the financial responsiblities that she’ll have in preparing for your big day.  However, if not try to ask other for a reputable natural salon that you can refer her to for your day.  Good luck!

The good thing is that you have a lot of time to figure this out. I made clear to my girls that I wanted to see their intended styles prior to the wedding. I had a bunch of natural brides as well. Most of them opted for weaves for the wedding which worked out well for everyone. I didn’t force this upon them. I just made clear that humidity may be an issue and however they do their hair needs to be a style that lasts long and can be done on their own (we did not get professional hair styling on the day of the wedding).

I am also natural and for a friend of mine’s wedding, I opted for a wig which looked just like this (but laid flatter on my head):

The key is to plan early. Would your girls be opposed to wearing weaves?

I’m resurrecting this post from the dead b/c I just wanna say that I think deciding on AA hair for weddings is like one of the most gruesome parts.

We have sooo many hair textures and I could say updo and get a million different styles, none of which are cohesive. I’m pretty sure I’m going w/ updo’s for my girls. I’m praying that none of them go 90s waterfall on me, but what can you do? I have 3 natural girls, 3 hispanic/mixed girls w/ straighter hair, 2 relaxed and 1 who rocks a baldie/fade most of the time. Lord help me.

I would really like to see everyone w/ a nice high bun or high pony but I doubt that will happen.

NYE2014:  Lol. You’re getting marring in the winter so the naturals will probably be protecting their hair so you might have a better chance of getting them to wear a bun. Let’s hope for your sake that the winter in the DMV is nicer this year…that fake snow/flurry stuff was bogus last year

hugkissd:  Not anymore, this is a battle I do not want to stress over any longer. I told them their hair and makeup should be on point

hugkissd:  I knoooooowwww… I didn’t buy wedding insurance although I’m stressing about that, like maybe I should have but I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

JJSoon2bwife14:  LOL! I do too… when I saw it I knew I had to have it. I have only discussed hair w/ one BM who is doing her own so she wanted to know my expectations so she could start practicing. I love her for that!
