I am a very indecisive person with the best and most compliant wedding party ever. They are all willing to jump through any hoop I suggest…if only I could pick out a hoop for them!
While planning our wedding, I decided on some lovely BM dresses from David’s Bridal (pictured below) without really thinking about seasonal appropriateness. Now, my girls will be wearing knee length dresses in the cold of January (granted, the ceremony IS indoors).
Should I suggest that the girls wear opaque tights or sheer pantyhose or nothing? I am asking for both your practical opinion (on whether they’ll be cold without them) and style opinion (what option will look the best).
The ceremony and reception are all in the same venue, and we can get dressed there. So technically, no one should have to step into the weather unless they want to.
Please help me decide!
Edit: I should mention they are all wearing basic black pumps (closed toe and heel).

That’s a nice dress! I say nude pantyhose because even though it is indoors, I’m sure they’ll lose their tan by January. Even nude color gives a little color.
My cousin didn’t wear pantyhose to our other cousin’s wedding 2 weeks ago, and I thought she looked rediculous.

I vote for nude pantyhose too, as long as the shoes aren’t super strappy. They’re old school, but they will photograph a lot better than naked legs.

I voted for nude pantyhose b/c of the time of year.

@darthsrader: That dress is awesome! I saw bare legs, personally. Pantyhose look weird and dated to me. If you really thnk they need leg coverage, go for opaque black tights (which I think would look great with that).

I vote for let them wear whatever they want on their legs!

I hate wearing pantyhose of any kind. I am a fair skinned so whenever I wear a skirt or dress I always use Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs in the lightest shade. It add a tiny bit of color and makes your legs look airbrushed (hence, the name) and photograph awesomely. It doesn’t transfer onto fabric (as long as you let it dry all the way), it is waterproof (to a point, anyway. As all waterproof products are), and it’s really inexpensive. I get mine for like $7.00 at Target.

@darthsrader: I am not a fan of the way nude pantyhose looks. It can photograph weird if it’s too thin, or thick, or shiny. Plus, you cannot wear open toed shoes or strappy heels with it. I am not sure if I liek the idea of black tights as a BM, either. I say bare legs, especially if they’re not going outside. If you want to emphasize the wintry season, why not buy them a gorgeous wrap or something that would double as a BM gift?
BTW – that is a great dress!

Opaque black tights! I am shocked people are saying nothing- you cannot do that in a cold climate in January. I would do black tights and black shoes.
Nude pantyhose are a no-no past the 1980s and (at the latest) 90s.

The ceremony is indoors so I see no reason for them to cover up their legs. Can you find awesome nude pantyhose? Yes. Is it friggin difficult as all hell? Absolutely. And I used to be totally into wearing nude pantyhose, but then I saw pictures taken of me in them and I was like “ahhh no way, I look stupid!” They DONT look like normal skin and you can totally tell they’re there. I’m sure there are the rare ones out there that don’t look horrendous in pictures, but lemme tell you that over the span of a few years I never found them, and I was looking.
Go with the Sally Hansesn airbrush legs.

@cbee: I’m shocked the majority are saying nothing, too — it’s January!! It will make people uncomfortable just LOOKING at the poor BMs’ bare legs.
I think opaque black tights is a very sophisticated look, and I’d probably pick that, but sheer black hose would look great, too. Tights are often more comfortable than pantyhose, too.

I abhor pantyhose personally! I’d say either bare legs, or opaque black tights. The tights would look good but may be kinda “trendy”.

Sheer black, nude, or nothing. I think opaque tights would make the dress a lot more casual. Why dont you ask your maids?
eta: LOVE the dress!!!

I say give them the option of nude hose or bare. Some people hate hose and some people swear by them. Either would be appropriate with the dress.

I think black would look lovely. I would be horrified/kind of mad if you made me wear nude pantyhose. Just….no. I would also say – maybe a cute black shrunken cardigan or black wrap? I’d rather have that to keep warm than tights. And I think it would look better.
