Well I’ve been pricing how much it will cost to have my favourite ever wedding dress re-made and it’s been quoted as £650 -£700 which is too much really (sob sob). Anyway… I then thought I would hire a wedding dress but in my local dress hire boutique there’s nothing coloured (I am in love with the idea of a coloured dress).
The ceremony is a small wedding with only 22 guests then the following week we are heading to Ireland for a big party. I really really would love to reverse the order and have my bridesmaids wear white and me in a beautiful colour but I am open to colour suggestions. I would love a white bouquet of flowers and perhaps give my bridesmaids white bouquets with touches of my dress colour. Also to prices down I’m seriously thinking of wearing a bridesmaids dress.
So the questions are as follows- is this a good idea? Do you guys have any colour suggestions and should my dress be from the same style range as my bridesmaids? Please feel free to upload pictures to give me ideas, thanks!

Have you thought of dressilyme or jasmines bridal? They will make any dress in whatever color they have that type of fabric in.
also, I’ve thought of a big bright red dress as my wedding dress. I suggest looking at prom dresses, they come in any color imaginable.

I’m not sure about ordering online as I have no idea what I would suit with my height and shape. I’m not into short dresses though I know that much. I think I would prefer to order locally so I can try it on in the shop etc, but I guess I’m just looking for basic ideas for now until I can go to a shop armed with ideas of colour and style and see if I can get something similar there.
Ive tried google searching white bridesmaids coloured bridal gown but haven’t found anything. Going to try again using different search words 🙂

I think a bridesmaid’s dress for you and white/ivory/cream dresses for your ladies is a great idea!
The only issue I foresee is that white is such a difficult color to wear, and there are so many different shades of white that people prefer, depending on their skin tone. Do you want them all to match? Because then you will have the problem that some people feel the shade you choose is unflattering to them. If you want to let them pick their own dress in a white or white-adjacent color, then everyone will be happy individually, but when you get them all together you might feel like some of the dresses look yellowish, bluish, grayish, etc. next to the others, depending on the undertones of the shades they choose.

@Irish-bride: Thats true. Another idea would be to go try dresses on in a shape, style and fabric you like to get an idea then maybe you would feel better about ordering something online once you know what looks good on you. Also If you went that route i’d make sure to check out the return policies.

don’t just limit yourself to Bridesmaid dresses. Some “prom” dresses are really nice!

I love the idea of a color reverse! (Although I would TOTALLY go red if it were me! Ha)

I love the idea of a jewel coloured wedding dress, maybe jade or something? I think if you’re going to have your BMs in white, you really need to go for a very striking colour for your own dress. But opening yourself up to coloured dresses definitely means you’ll have a better pick of affordable dresses. I don’t know if this is the sort of thing you’re looking for, but Debenhams have this ball gown for £130 http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_008010515047_-1?breadcrumb=Home~Women~Occasion+%26amp%3B+evening+wear

Yeah I saw that pic one time before but I think her bridesmaids and herself should have been In dresses of the same style or length or both?
I have just discovered this http://offbeatbride.com/2012/01/bridesmaids-in-white-dresses and there’s a few that I don’t like the look of but I’m quite impressed with the lady in gold.

I’m looking at having a BM dress for my wedding dress as I want a coloured dress, so I say go for it!!What colour scheme do you have in mind for the wedding? We’re blue & silver – my girls in blue & me in silver.
That said – I just got in trouble for this idea from a bridal store woman at a bridal expo this past weekend! We watched the fashion parade at the expo & wrote down the ones we wanted details of. Went to the woman & she happily wrote out a card (incl $400+ prices for the BM dress styles).
Then I asked if one of the bridal dresses was purely white/ivory or in other colours, as I wanted a silver wedding dress – I would probs just get a BM dress. She then got up me, telling me I should reconsider! She told me that I was never going to get the quality in a BM/evening gown that I would in a wedding dress & I should be more open minded!
