I wanted my bridesmaids to like their dresses so I along with one other bridesmaid chose two different styles..one long and one short and two different colors..a dark royal purple and a lavender. I told them they could choose whichever dress they liked best. Well it ended up that three chose the short lavender dress and one chose the long dark purple dress. I had no probelm with that, but my Future Mother-In-Law has said that she thinks it doesn’t look good. That it looks as though she just went out and bought a random dress to wear and that she doesnt think that I should let her wear it because it “doesnt go”. It personally doesnt bother me at all because I loved the mismatched dresses trend and those colors are our two main colors and they go well with our flowergirls and junior bridesmaids dresses which are the same colors. What should I do? Make my bridesmaid switch to appease my Future Mother-In-Law or leave it how it is? I should also mention, no one has purchased dresses so switching is do-able and the long dress also comes in the same lavender color as the short dresses but not visa versa. Thanks for the help ladies!

@princesskay13: do you have pictures of the dresses? since they have no purchased the dress it doesnt hurt to discuss it with your Bridesmaid or Best Man and see how she feels about the other dress. it may be that she likes this one more but is also okay with the other dress?

Just being completely honest, I think having one long dress among 3 short dresses may look a little out of place. Maybe it’s just my personal preference but it would definitely bother me! If you are ok with it though then I wouldn’t worry about your Future Mother-In-Law becuase it’s your day and YOU are the one that needs to be happy! 🙂

I saw this picture before I picked out and dresses and this was made me think it would look okay. I do realize that all four of these dresses are different, instead of three of the same and one different.

i was going to say that I thought the difference in length would be more of a ‘visual’ issue than the different colour, but after looking at your inspiration pic, I realize you are a more off-beat person, so who cares what your Future Mother-In-Law thinks?
if you are happy and your BMs are happy, then great. But maybe, to throw in even more wackiness, ask one of the other BMs if they want a diff colour or a longer dress.
and wear mustaches. haha! just kidding..
