Hello Bees! When the FH and I got engaged, we decided from the get-go to be as “original” as possible on our wedding day. Now – of course – this is nearly impossible – so “original” became – nothing our friends have already done. So far we have stuck true to our plan so now I really need some opinions and help please!!!
I have six bridesmaids in the wedding. I have been seeing people do the 2 different dress colors lately but I am not a huge fan of that. I have also seen brides telling their BMs to go buy “anything grey” but I don’t like that much diversity in the dresses. So my next “original” thought was to pick a designer, color, style and length for the dresses, but allow my BMs to get whatever they want in whatever fabric they want (i.e. 2 satin, 2 taffeta, 2 chiffon). By picking the same designer I would be able to ensure that the dresses were dyed the exact same color, but – the different fabrics would provide me with variations of that color and some “texture” in my pictures. I think this could look really awesome or reallllly TERRIBLE. I really need to see what this would look like before I make ANY decisions.
So I went on a google hunt and I cannot find ANYWHERE someone else that has done this. So I turn to you bees! Has anyone done this with their wedding (had your BMs in relatively the same dress, but in different fabrics?) If so – PLEASE post pictures! If not – what are your thoughts? I am not a visual person AT ALL so ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

When we chose our Bridesmaid or Best Man dressses, I wanted the same designer, same length, same colour. I was told that the fabric has to be the same because the dresses will not be the same colour even though it is the same designer. My girls picked their own style of dress but they are all the same fabric.
I’m having AA satin dresses in eggplant. When we looked at the taffeta, AA does not make a matching eggplant colour. The closest was grape which wasn’t the look i was going for at all. Hope that helps

I think it could look very pretty. I would suggest sticking with the same color, the same length but vary the cut and fabric. It could come out looking something like the below. Given that you are looking for something “unusual” having some added depth to the color with slightly different shades wouldn’t be such a bad thing!

@MissC2b: I was actually thinking that the color variation would look kind of nice. That’s part of the reason I like the idea so much!

@MsMindle: THANK YOU! This is exactly the type of thing I am looking for. I think this type of this could work very well now that I see it in a photo! Where did you find these dresses? I want to do the same thing but in my color scheme.
