Bridesmaids Dress=STRESS

posted 4 months ago in Beehive

I am having the hardest time picking out bridesmaides dresses. I don't want any of my BMs to spend more that $150 on their dress and shoes. Is this too low?

I would love some advice. Here are my wedding stats:

The wedding is outside, basically in the middle of a field..on top of a hill, in March

My dress is quite "poofy"..if anyone is familiar with Maggie Sottero's "Rasharna," that is my dress. It is white with white embroidered polka-dots

My colors are pink (more deep, peony pink) and apple green

My bridesmaids range in size from a 0 to a 14

I would like them all in the same, if not very similar, dress, possibly with repeating colors

I will gladly take any pictures, websites, ANYTHING.

Oh, and I live in Ft. Worth, TX.

Thank you all!

you can do it with that price if you pick a dress that's from Ann Taylor on sale usually they're cute dresses that run around 60 dollars. And they come in the colors you like since they are popular colors. Also I would try nordstrom maybe or some other department store, but it may cost you your whole budget.

You could also check out David's Bridal in this price range. This is a flattering style - when I was looking my bridesmaid tried it on and it looked really nice.

You might check out Lasting Impressions in Addison.  They usually have sales going on...

Try Jcrew, BCBG, Lord and Taylor.  They all have great dresses, also Group USA, if there is one near you!

Try cocomyles.com. They have build-your-own dresses. They will send you free fabric swatches so you can check colors. Be sure to check out their blog with pics of real weddings wearing their dresses. Prices are GREAT.

With that kind of price and size range, I would go with David's Bridal. It really is a good way to go for bridesmaid dresses. You can let the girls pick the style that will flatter their body and you pick the color. Also, each girl can try on the dress, even if they don't live in the same location.

I went with David's and each dress was $135, and I let the girls buy their own (brown) coordinating shoes. At least one of the girls already had the perfect shoes in her wardrobe.

I also went with David's. My bridesmaids are all across the county, so it was very easy to let them get their dresses on their own. I picked the color, fabric, and length, and there were plenty of styles for each girl to pick on that she was comfortable in. I also had checked out places like Ann Taylor and JCrew, but they couldn't compare to David's prices.

The boutique I bought my dress at gave all my BMs 20% off their dress. With tax thier dress came out to right under $150. And for my out of state BMs that included shipping the dress to them. I thought that was a pretty sweer deal. Maybe the place you got your dress at does that also.

Jcrew is having a sale right now and some possible BM dresses are on sale for less than a 100.00 plus if you type in the code you'll get an additional 30% off! Hurry so you can make your budget happen!

You should try the designers After Six or Alfred Angelo.  You can purchase them online i.e. netbride.com or rkbridal for usually well under $150.

I had a similar problem, as my bridesmaids ranged from size 2-18. I also didn't want them to spend much money. I ended up going with Alfred Angelo because almost all their dresses come in all the colors and they match very well, even if the dresses are made of different material. Then I let each girl pick out whatever dress she wanted, as long as it was ankle length (it's a winter wedding) and I ordered them all in navy. I was very nervous about this because I was afraid it might look funny in pictures, but I am SO glad I did this. It took a lot of stress off me, no one can complain about the cost because they could have chosen a cheaper dress if they want, and no one can complain about not liking it because htey chose it. And I think different dresses look cute in other weddings, so I think ours will look fine too :)

I randomly got some bridal magazine the other day, no idea why....but the new davids bridal and alfred angelo dresses are actually pretty nice looking.  They are getting more modern and in fashion than they used to be, probably because of all the people now who shop at jcrew and ann taylor and stuff.  and they have literally every color.  and size.  One thing I will say, I know most girls on here are fans of jcrew and ann taylor, but being a size 14 myself,  getting a dress at these stores is really difficult.  Jcrew may increase the size, but not the bust/cup size.  ann taylor is a little better, but if you have bigger girls, it really isn't practical to shop at these stores.  They will most likely need to be measured and fitted well.

oh - and different dresses really looks so good!  ours wore different dresses, and it gives them a sense of themselves and their own style rather than a cookie-cutter wedding party that is usually what the bride likes.

Outdoor wedding in March?  How warm is it there in March- that will make a big difference and what type of dress you should be looking at...

I don't have any input as to the style of the dress (I pretty much took my BMs out shopping and they picked something they liked!) but wanted to say to definitely check out netbride.com.  We found a Bill Levkoff dress that everyone liked, and it was about $165 in most stores. With tax, shipping, and everything on netbride, it came to $118 each! And the dresses came out great, and arrived a month earlier than they said they would. So...shop around!

Is there a Macy's with a bridal salon near you? My BMs got their dresses there and they were under $150. They have a huge selection of styles and colors.
