@pixiecat:  Honestly, that’s tough but I would probably wait. I love Sephora makeup, but they’re not exactly vac-sealed or anything and I just wouldn’t. It’s cool if you don’t mind old makeup, but I’ve noticed that after the toss date it can (doesn’t always but has) really irritated my skin. So I’d be super bummed if I couldn’t use something that you spent money on.

There are so many sets out there that you don’t necessarily need to do the Sephora holiday sets. I’ve been drooling over some of the NARS and Bare Minerals sets lately.

But even so, if they’re coming out now already you won’t have an issue next year. After all, this time next year you’ll still be a month out. An online order at Sephora takes like 3 days, or you can always go to the store. It’s not like a process or anything. Plus, if you wait for next year they’ll be more up to date on the color / style trends.

@pixiecat:  I get it. I actually have to avoid that place because it’s totally one of my Achilles heals. ; )

If they are coming out in September of this year, they will come out in September of next year, and be fresher. I’d just wait. You’ll have almost a month to shop!

I think it’s fine to get them now.

Most makeup has been sitting in a warehouse for a lot longer than you’d imagine. There is no saying that the makeup you’re buying now was not left over from the same holiday season last year. It isn’t hard to repackage if the design has changed.

Most unopened makeup has a “recommended” shelf life of three years.

I think you’re well in the clear.

Do you think they might buy it for themselves at all?  Sometimes I wait to buy gifts, simply because if there is a large time between buying it and giving it to them, there is a larger chance that it might be something they bought themselves.

This happened once where a friend bought me a Bath and Body works set for my birthday, but didn’t have the chance to give it to me until a few months later. She didn’t know it but a week before she saw me I had just went there and bought it for myself when it was on sale!

I personally prefer the giftcard because I have really sensitive skin, plus I don’t wear make-up often.  I think if you know your bridesmaids’ tastes, you can go ahead and get them, especially if you’re getting dry/powder make-up products.

Buy them now. I got my BM and GM gifts probably before I even had a wedding dress. I got discounts and it helped keep costs low.

Because it is a gift with an expiration, I would either wait or go with gift cards.
